I was reading a post here in the miscellaneous section that no doubt many of you have read, it was about how a guy's parents get ridiculously angry about him not doing something because he was in the middle of a game so he had to AFK.

In the comments section below I saw several very angering posts from a user that I won't name to protect his privacy but most of you probably know it anyway. What he said is that the youth today are very disrespectful to their parents and how we are immature and such, my response to that is "Don't let a few bad apples ruin the bunch" <-- Not sure I got that right but moving on. This angers me because he portrayed it as if we don't care about our parents feelings rules and such, now I'm 15 the only times that I break the rules in my house are when I feel its absolutely necessary which is almost never. I love my dad I wouldn't try to ever intentionally hurt him or anyone else in my family. Now I'm not your average 15 year old I'm a straight A student and I understand more about life than most kids my age, I don't mean to get into personal life too much here but I already lost my mom when I was 13, and my Grandma just this year in May. I understand many things I'm probably the nicest guy you will ever meet in game and out of it. But I'm pretty sure anyone would get at least a little irritated when you've explained to your parents before that you cant simply "pause" an online game and that it really isn't that long of a game an hour at the VERY most (granted ive seen an 82 minute game but that was bronze ya know) you can't just drop everything and leave because oh hey you will get banned -_-. Now if it takes literally 5 seconds ill do it, but longer than 3 mins and id tell you you're out of your mind. (CS matters!!!) any way you are better off reading the post and then you will understand this one more I've made this one long enough.

P.S. Parents that use the "When you pay the bills you can make the rules" excuse you are asking for your kid to get an attitude with you, and they probably wont call or visit as much as youd like them to.

P.P.S. TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN WHAT YOUR KID IS SO INTERESTED IN!!!!! Otherwise you will never understand them.

Depends on the situation. A game not being able to be paused is a very very weak argument for not engaging in family matters. If you have chores/responsibilities (I have no idea the circumstances in this case), ignoring them to play games and getting frustrated when they want you to leave said game "because it cannot be paused" is irresponsible.

My solution would be before sitting down to a (potentially) long game would be to ask if your parents will need you in the next hour or so for something. If they'll want a chore done, hopefully they'll think of it then or let you know that the current plan is to leave the house in 20 minutes or whatever.

As to the disrespect point, it all depends. However, from what I have seen today, far too many children ARE disrespectful to their parents, and neglecting your duties (potentially again... depends on what is happening so I'm reserving as much judgement as possible) to play a game while simultaneously being non empathetic about the situation is pretty disrespectful. Also saying you're being disrespectful does NOT mean they are saying you do not care. Merely that you are being disrespectful. You can care, while being unwittingly disrespectful.

As a prime example, I am an adult. After moving in with my girlfriend and her dog (first time dog owner for me) she FOOLISHLY left me alone with him for a weekend. I was playing a game and our dog (Pepper... sweet boy) came up to me trying to get my attention. I however did not know what he wanted and figured he wanted pets. A couple minutes pass by and he promptly starts urinating EVERYWHERE. Sometimes the game must take second place to life. :P
