If people want to do this, they will via some other platform (teamspeak, raidcall, skype, steam, whatever). Voice chat won't be 100% effective, since many people don't have microphones, or won't communicate anyhow. The system could be abused to catastrophic ends. Rage between players would suddenly become a much larger problem, since it wouldn't be as impersonal.
Players that don't have a mic can just listen and type back, the same as every other game.
"Could be abused"? No more than text and the option to mute individual players could be included to solve any harassment problems.
Voice chat improves teamwork and an inbuilt client means exactly that. It's inbuilt. You don't have to DL anything else and it works with every other person who has the game installed. No "I have skype", "I have mumble", "i use vent" arguments.
The sooner the better IMO!
Other than the fact that voicelogs would have to be attached to tribunal records and to accurately do the tribunal, each player voting would have to listen to the whole game.
Edit: as well as the reviewing Riot staff where appropriate.
not sure if sarcasm or just stupid
Just saying the tribunal system doesn't allow for this. All trolling and bannable offenses would move to voicechat, and no one would ever be banned again for in game behavior. If a new system replaces the Tribunal that allows for it, I would support microphone usage.
Riot wasn't release the replay function because they not sure their server can handle the replay data from each game. Now, your voice data will be 10 time bigger than replay data, and 10 times more than that (voice from each player instead of all 10 player in 1 replay). More over, who gonna sit there, listening to you guys scolding each other?
What is the possibility of this to happen? Down vote my ass.
The game must have some form of player behavior control. If adding voice means no player behavior monitoring, then that means no voice. End of story.
If what you say about server loads is true, then you're only proving my point. Though, its not necessarily true. The server load for replays would be every game, and the server load for microphone reports would only be those games with reports. If the percentage of games that have reports is low enough, Riot servers could handle it. Which again, could only happen through proper player behavior monitoring and control. Proper control causes lower helps to reduce toxic behavior. I'd bet good money the player behavior team would agree with that. Which brings us back to... We need a solid form of player monitoring that supports voice.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love voice chat. But I think that dealing with trolls and toxic players would ruin the game more than voice would augment it.
Edit: By the way, I didn't down vote you.
I understand there are some concerns regarding abuse of a voice chat but I feel these are easily resolved. If you play FPS games for instance, you get mic spammers and ragers who scream obscenities occasionally, so you just bring up the menu and mute that person. Problem solved. Then you can just have a counter, and if someone gets muted too often they get warned and then voice disabled for a few days before having to take things further. It could even be a voluntary option like all chat.
I dont think I want this to happen.
It's would be lot more effective to bashing your teammate with your own voice. All cap is just not enough.
yes, please! maybe have a test of it for a week and if it doesnt work out then let it go? don't really know how that stuff goes but it would be fun to give it a try.
