My Open Letter to Riot

Dear Riot (and other community members),

I have decided to post this open letter not as a "rant" but as a reflection on the current state of the game and how that has come to affect my experience personally while playing League of Legends.

In recent months - or perhaps even years - I have gradually felt continuously more disenfranchised from the game. Perhaps I am a minority in this regard - or perhaps I am not - but everyone who plays this game is a consumer and the goal of a business of this sort is to attract and retain consumers.
The first and perhaps the biggest issue I am finding while playing at present is that the game is being balanced around competitive play. This I feel is inappropriate as the professional community comprises a very minute fraction of the player base (0.01% or less off the top of my head). Although we all can dream of being that talented and devoted to the game, most players are not - nor ever will be, myself included. As a consumer it makes me feel underappreciated and frustrated that I am expected to play at a level similar to a professional. The Second issue at current is with regards to dynamic queue. While I personally appreciate what you have tried to implement and I do believe it is a good move to keep dynamic queue - to keep ONLY dynamic queue is from my perspective an unfortunate misjudgement. As a player who tends to play solo I feel it would be more appropriate to have an additional ranked queue for only solo players. Perhaps I am a true minority in this regard but a minority of consumers are still consumers none-the-less and are at present un-provided for.

I have recently begun to play less, and now have decided that it is time for us to part ways. I wont say I am quitting, because that would imply I am not returning. I hope that eventually Riot will win me back as a player, because this a great game with great people but at present there are just other games better suited to my needs. I look forward to playing with you again sometime soon :)

Cody :)

If only you knew that no one cares you probably woulda saved 15 min of your day not typing this.

If you don't like the current state of the game...you can leave. No one is holding you hostage to play a game that you're not content with.

You're not the only 1 asking for a soloque system, but the problem with that is then dynamic que could not exist. 4 man ques are a no go at all, and 2/3 man que times would be similar to the challenger que times right now. It's already a big deal if the .01% are complaining about que times, imagine if 50% complained about the same problem. As for your other complaint, if rito balanced champions around bronze then any hard champion would slowly become broken to the point of no return. You'd see champions like azir with a 90% win rate in challenger while champs like annie in the same elo would have a 30% winrate because she's getting nerfed only because she is easy to play for bad players. Your complaints are valid but you have come up with no good way to solve them. The balancing is fine as it is, as for dynamic que they should probably drop it and admit that they done goofed. Unfortunately riot is stubborn as all hell so they won't, but your solution is just as bad as theirs

the game is being balanced around competitive play.

Yes , it is and for a very good reason. RIOT balances the game around the players who play the most consistent this of course will be LCS and high MMR Diamond +.

For the solo queue thing it sucks people lost it. I was never against it but I was highly against the whining and conspiracy theory threads people started over it.

The game does get boring quickly. Perhaps a break is in order.

I think we should be grateful for such a wonderful game, it isn't like one of those mindless pointless ones, no, this one requires a lot of strategy and know-how, personally, I think many games lack this quality and there needs to be more like it.

Within regards of how to solve this problem, maybe making a seperate client for professional players could benefit you. I am not going to make an analysis of your play style or life, but this just doesn't seem like the game for you if you are not willing to apply yourself to improve. If casual play is what you were looking for, then there are plenty of other games that can suit your needs.

This is a problem called "idealism"

Not everything is going to live up to your expectations, so you should focus on enjoying your own life instead of complaining about something that is in no way forced on you because things could be way worse, this applies to everything, and I will be honest, I am guilty of it, too.

It seems like a sappy cry for attention to me, if you want to take a break from the game, then do it, that's good, you can pay attention to other, more important matters.

[Edit] Also, telling Riot they suck for not meeting your needs is a little selfish. Instead of writing a letter, write an analysis/criticism of their game applying actual logic on how it could be better, rather than your personal feelings on it.
