Haven't Played in 3 Years

I used to be play LoL entirely too much, probably about a month or two after release till I started Grad School, in Fall of 2012. My apartment/dorm had terrible internet, and I could not play without lagging out every 5 minutes, so I stopped. And then I never picked it back up.

I am finally in a place with awesome internet and the time/money to pick up former hobbies.

However, LoL is a very competitive game, at least how I like to play it. Since I'm sure my skills are rusty, and there are many new champions/changes since I last roamed the lanes, I was wondering if someone might be able to point me to a good guide/post, or just share their thoughts, on how I could get back up to speed without pissing people off in matches by just jumping back in.

Thanks for your time and advice.

We have currently left the Assassin meta and living in the Tank meta. Adcs such as vayne have became popular, and ryze reworks, so he isn't really fun to spam anymore (but i recommend him and cho for tank mages) i can give more after my game

dude! just jump in and practice. go in teambuilder and pick your role and go ham. if your team starts whining because you are underperforming, type /mute all. there are some major changes to vision, you can only place 3 wards and one pink. pinks are always visible. there are free items called trinkets which are for either warding, ward sweeping (oracles is dead...RIP QQ) or the blue trinket is for revealing an area pretty similar to the summoner spell clairvoyance. there have been tons of itemchanges and new items. and the jungle is quite different to season 2.

But hey! you'll manage! have fun!!!
