How League is Helping Me With College
Hi everyone! I just started my freshman year of college two weeks ago at the AB Technical Institute in North Carolina, and going into it my only experiences with school were those awful times I'm sure quite a few of us had in public school. So needless to say, I was quite anxious going into it. Now I'm two weeks in and everything is going a hell of a lot better than I would have thought it would, and here's why. I just finished my placements and I'm currently Bronze 3, I was super stressed over this as well but I'm all over that at this point, and I've been using my Solo Q mindset to help me through my class that is heavy with group work. Mostly by approaching with the mindset of "I'm probably going to have to carry this group". Nothing against my classmates, they're all great and fun to work with for the most part. But as with every school experience there's that one guy who is the equivalent of someone in your ranked lobby locking Galio and asking "Do I build AD or AP????" I've had ranked, and especially low ELO's like mine, explained to me as "Carry Practice". My friends insist that Bronze exists to help you learn to carry a game on your own because you have to assume your teammates are awful and have no idea what they're doing (Hope I'm not offending my Bronze brothers out here ;w;). Looking at that sentence it looks like a really toxic mindset but it's gotten me pretty far in League, and it's helping me in my classes as well. I tell myself I have to carry my group and I find that reason enough to work harder than I would if I could trust my team to carry one another. And while I'm trying to carry them harder, they usually carry me just as hard because we're freshman(Bronze) plebs and want to strive for that senior (Plat+) year, while still finding some time to have fun and troll Solo Q.
