1v1s prove nothing
i think we can all agree 1v1s don't prove your skill as a player, so why do so many people challenge me to one??

U wot m8? 1v1 me irl ill rek u scrub.
Everyone knows that 1v1 is worthless in a team game. People default to asking for 1v1's if their fragile gamer ego takes a hit, and they feel the need to assert their dominance.
Once, there was a game that my team was steamrolling. However, the other team wasn't bitter, and we were having friendly banter back and forth. I challenged one of their team to a 1v1 for the fun of it, to see if I could beat them (I think we were both good duelists and pretty evenly fed).
Both our teams were nearby, and we started fighting. If I remember correctly, it looked like my opponent was going to win, but then their kat decided to interfere... which ended in me flashing to safety, and my team proceeding to beat the crap out of her and go on to win the game.
As an actual answer to your question, though: people challenge others to 1v1s for the same reason that people (stereotypically men in bars, with a pretty woman nearby) challenge the other to "take this outside."
Because too many new players are CoD transfers...
I challenge friends to 1v1s bc i wish magma chamber was a thing.
nice thread, i was just thinking about this too haha :D I believe it doesn't because LoL is a team game, I'm not even sure if there is such a thing as a "better" player. Although, you may see a diamond better than a bronze, IMO a gold player could be better than a diamond, or a diamond better than a challenger. (IMO)
Holdover from World of WarCraft -- where the helmet-kids who were the WoW equivalent of Bronze V thought that team skill in arena/battlegrounds could be accurately qualified via a duel outside Orgrimmar.
I challenge my friends to 1v1s occasionally because i like to duel with them, sometimes to settle an argument but mostly to have fun.
(most of the time we duel with really stupid rules like full tank
or dot
)
so yeah... i agree that 1v1s don't determine skill level on this game
The only way a 1v1 can be considered skills as a player, is either 1. Fight 1v1 in real life. or 2. Virtual Reality comes about (SAO 1v1s for example if you would like to imagine something)
