Season 4 Support Idea

My girlfriend and I were discussing support changes for the next season since she mains support, and we thought of perhaps a mastery point that reduces ward price moderately deep in the utility tree (unlocked after spending 13 points). We haven't spent too long on crunching the numbers, but logically off the top of our heads, 40g is far too low, 50 is eh, but 55-60 seems about right, with pink wards either having no reduction, or being reduced to about 100g, making them have a +5g effectiveness on killing full price green wards for more incentive to pink.

As I said, this is still in the brainstorming phase and the numbers are very fuzzy, but we hope you take this into consideration to make season 4 awesome for supports. Thanks.

Yes supports are undderrated and effectily they can make or break a game. True ADC does the most Physical damge. Mid focuses on Magic The top is a mix of either tanking the crap out of things or becoming the living Avatar of War. and jungle is there ot make the other lanes fear facebush checking like a kid fearing the boogyman. But Supports have such a huge role. They have to protect, ward, set up kills, Peel, Call mias, and effectively hold the line when their adc backs. But yet when a game goes bad the Support is the first to be blamed. "YOU DIDN'T WARD ENOUGH.' Effectively having only one champ ward an entire game is pointless and can only cover so much ground .Effectively when you have ghost wards you have at most in a single slot 3 wards you can place down. -1 at the dragon and -1 At baron you effectly only have only 1 ward you can free place. Now then you have to use a second slot to buy pinkeye, pink wards, or even more wards. This cuts in to a support having to depend on their runes and their masteries for ,tankiness, damage, mana, CDR and all the other fun little things only champs get to enjoy that you honestly can't. From my time in Ranked when I has forced to support I had my adc constantly yelling at me. "WARD HERE, CHECK THIS BUSH , PROTECT ME SQUIRE. (Yes he really said Protect me squire.) and when the game is over. He got all the credit of carrying the game to victory when in truth without a support he would of been a dead duck.

TBH i think oracles need to be looked at, currently the new oracles are very anti-fun, if a tanky support aka-leona/thresh buys an oracle they can basically destroy your wards while being hard to kill and there is literally zero counterplay to oracles as it stands, personally i think there needs to be some risk, one of the ideas i cam up with was to reduce the remaining duration of the oracle buy a set percentage on death, that way its in between what we have now and what we used to have

This way you would have a way to counter oracles while making them still not completely risky to buy, something like 30% seems fair to me but riot could work the numbers more specifically

I do agree that something needs to happen to wards, the sightstone was an interesting idea but it works too well on a certain blind monk and lamppost wielding terror :P

I don't think that that specific mastery would be extremely beneficial to supports and very possible for abuse. 13 points is rather deep into the tree but there are plenty of ways to build champions and it is very possible to be efficient even with that many points put into utility.

In regards to changing Oracle's, I don't think it is a problematic item on its own, what is a problem is the immense reliance on Vision in the game right now. Worlds has shown that teams will buy ridiculous amounts of wards and paint the map with green and pink in order to control everything. Vision can very easily swing games from one side to the complete opposite and there is not much of a way to do much about that. Before the new Oracle's, it was almost impossible to do anything about vision even by buying an Oracle's.

What I believe support needs is something that caters to their very niche sort of playstyle. While Jungle has shifted to a more tanky, utility and support based style, they are still much more similar to other positions. Perhaps items that are lower in stats than the amount of gold spent but actives or auras that benefit a team or dual style much better. Figuring out how to give Supports more gold is not a terrible problem in my opinion. While they should be able to get more gold, they aren't nearly as starved as they were before. Supports need to be very, very specifically catered to even moreso than sightstone appeared to be.

Cheaper wards doesn't equal supports getting more items, it just equals more vision. I already have a lot of trips of leaving the base with 6+ wards ready for use, and a consumable start already allows for 5 wards + pots, which is already insane.

Personally I think increasing or reducing gold on support is no help at all. In my OPINION I think that when supports place a ward ONLY in jungle and like 100 range away from lanes, they should be rewarded like 50 gold for each enemy champion that is spotted in the warded area! It will not work if an allied champion is in the warded area before an enemy champion appears. That is just my opinion. Maybe the same amount of gold goes to the jungler in the team.
