Will Riot let me change my IGN for free?

I recently underwent a massive breakup (by recently I mean tonight). My BF got violent and started threatening me and he followed me almost all the way home. I'm really freaking out :|

He's the one who got me into LoL and it's since become a huge part of my life. I love this game to death :) And even though I've removed and ignored him from my friend's list I'm still sort of worried that he'll find me and start harassing me in games and on the client. I don't have the time to farm up enough IP for a name change and I don't have money right now to buy RP to do it.

Do you think Riot would give me a free name change? I'm asking here before I submit a support ticket.

I do have a smurf account (this one that I'm posting from) but I've put a lot of time, effort, and money into my main and I'd rather not lose all of that. I just want to avoid even the possibility of meeting up with him in game :(

First of all, I'm sorry that happened to you, that's awful and I hope things work out for you. :(

You should definitely submit a support ticket. Riot employees try to be really understanding. Even if they don't give you a free change in your IGN,I wouldn't worry too much about running into your ex online. League of Legends has a huge player base and running into people more than once is fairly rare unless you're upper Diamond and higher.

I hope everything works out~

First things first:

My BF got violent and started threatening me and he followed me almost all the way home.

This worries me; stalking behavior (and that's what this is) can escalate and get out of hand. IRL, I hope you tell people you trust about this, and, if the behavior continues, seek out resources that will help you deal with this.

As to your question, it can't hurt to send in a ticket. Even if Riot doesn't want to give you a straight-up name change, you might be able to negotiate a "change my name now and I'll pay for it when I get enough IP" kind of deal. And even if they won't even do that, the worst that can happen is they say no.

How to put this....

  1. Send in a Support Ticket.
  2. Block your BF's number so that you won't be spammed by possible voicemails.
  3. If the name change isn't given (Riot please consider decision) Ask another to assist you in this matter. I'm sure we can donate 10$ to prevent any IRL Issues.

Good Luck friend.
