To your title, no. To your content, placements are not known to be overly accurate. The more you play, the more accurate your rating will be. To your poll, I'm not sure if that could be more biased unless it just didn't include the option no.

Most people have posted being placed much lower than they expected. I think Riot wants more people to actually play, not just get placed and call it good.
