What if we were to remove chat?

Annoyed at LoL's crappy community? Well, read on.... If this is TL:DR, skip down. There's a cutoff further down for the main idea.

So recently I've been getting a few chat restrictions (and very recently, a 2 week ban). I'm aware that I am a toxic player and need to improve, but I also knew that there were some things that I was doing that I probably didn't know were bad.

So I asked Riot. They were actually really helpful, and explained to me that inherently, I'm not a toxic player. Rather, I got more and more toxic as the games go on, mostly as a result of chat.

They offered me a few simple solutions, such as moving chat away from the screen and muting everyone before the game. I've tried both of these. They're decent ideas, but they have downsides. Muting everyone is a pain in the ass, as you have to do it at the start of every single game. Moving the chat away from the screen is significantly easier, but still has its downsides. For example, if everyone is muted then you can still post a chat saying "Hey, we should go baron!". If you want to post and see what you're writing, you need to move that chat back to the screen. Which could expose you to some potential unpleasantness from other players, and is kind of a pain. Not to mention that you can't choose a default location for it (just like choosing a default location for the store or stats screen - often annoying when you're dead and they interfere with the post-death stats).

Ever had that moment when you accidentally hit enter and can't use any skills? Well you realize it pretty quickly. You probably wouldn't if you can't see chat.

TL;DR? Main idea:

So with neither of these options working, I came up with an idea. I replied to Riot and not only did the Rioter I was talking to say "yeah, good idea! I'll look into it!" But he actually told me to go boost it in forums. Which isn't something I normally do, but whatever! Worth a shot!

So this is my idea. Implement a function that automatically mutes all players in your game. (An alternative would be to limit the number of posts you see that slowly builds over time, just like chat restriction but on what you can read, not type.) If they implement a function to remove chat, it wouldn't be that great. If you needed to say something with more detail than a ping, you wouldn't be able to. Chat would be gone. If chat is still there with everyone muted though, you can still speak and even unmute them if you want.

There aren't even any downsides that I can think of. Additional features could include the excluding of anyone on your friends list from this, an extra /chat option that would allow you to talk to people you're paired with, such as a ranked duo partner or a trio in normals.

Not to mention that it would be an option, so it wouldn't harm anyone who didn't want to use it. Actually, it would still benifit them, as they wouldn't be exposed to as much toxicity.

Just as the rioter said about my toxic history and becoming more toxic as the game went on, I'm about 99% sure that most of the time, that's because I just get more and more frustrated with people and what they're saying. The times when I have muted everyone or moved chat away from the screen, I haven't actually been that toxic. And by toxic I don't mean what I say, I mean how good of a mood I'm in.

So overall, I think this feature could not only be used for toxic players who want to improve, but just for anyone who wants to have a better game and more enjoyable time. Not to mention that this feature would really help with the new player experience.

Thoughts? Opinions? I really want this implemented into the game, and not just for my sake. It started off as an idea and solution to my problems, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that a couple lines of code from Riot would improve the quality of this game tenfold.

Actually, I'd like a "Sona" setting with everyone muted, and only chat logs would be through pings.

At least then you can communicate with those ping tools, but otherwise you don't need to say anything. Might help to improve the types of pings available to players (a "place ward here" ping would be nice) so commands can be issued without having to chat.

Communication is a key part of success.

I get the idea, but I still find it really stupid that one of their solutions is just to mute everyone at the start.
