Starting up a business

Hey Summoners!

I wanted to start a business for the gaming community in NY or driving distance from my house. I have had a few ideas already but would anyone want to pay for the services? More feed back or ideas would be great!

UPDATE: 7/18/15 This will be a PC based business with a possibility consoles (based on size), will have either a restaurant and bar (depending on location for bar) with with game themed menu (but not a fancy as Battle and Brew menu) ;( or pastries and coffee bar. I will try to host small local tournaments and events.

Consoles will be per hour with unlimited people. PC's will be per hour with early bird specials and whole day use! Memberships will be available (but hasn't been thought of atm)

It's hard for you to get feedback on whether people would be interested in your services if you don't share what they are. :)

I don't quite know what your community is like, a close friend of mine's step father attempted a similar business, not to the expansive degree that you're talking about, but quite similar. We didn't have the market for it and he didn't make it two years. Granted he didn't go into debt to do it so it wasn't as much of a loss, plus he got to sell off his stock of computers and such afterwards, so it recouped most of the losses anyway. For the record I'm in Pennsylvania in case that gives you a little more important information.

I would suggest that if you're looking into this you do some market research before trying, many good ideas turned out to be bad ideas for their area, but in another area would have blown up and been massively popular.

I know these days, myself being a prime example, I'd be open to something like this, but I prefer to utilize my own computer, so it might be wise to have areas for that in case there are friends that want to play together, but a couple have their own insane custom built computers.

I've heard of a lot of gaming bars, alcohol being served and such, but you never know the crowd you'll get with that kind of an extra attraction.

Furthermore I'm actually involved in commercial real estate so if you'd like I can provide you with some rent figures based on what they're like here, again I'm not in your community, so prices may be different, rental space opportunities may be different, but it should give you a rough idea of what you're looking at.

I would also propose that if you're near a college town, you try and utilize that market, a lot of college students are unable to bring their full gaming rig with them, I know I wasn't and had to deal with a crappy laptop for my gaming, which reduced me to sub par games most of the time.

If you'd like to add me in game, I'd be glad to talk to you more about this stuff and we can maybe get into a bit more detail as to how a lot of this might work, which I wouldn't over a forum post due to potentially sensitive info you may not want to throw up for the world to see lol.

Do you have the money for this first of all lol. You know you need all kinds of permits that cost a bunch of money.

With that said, i think it would be a great idea to open a gaming themed recreational center/bar. Specially somewhere like NY where it's packed with people.

TBH I dont have the funds right now, but i have talked to friends and family that are willing to help me out with funds. Of course i will be asking for loans from the bank and possibly make a kickstarter campaign.

I reasons for this was not because NY is packed with people, but since I grew up here there are internet cafes that I have been too when i was younger.. though they didn't really interact and build a community..

I will be interacting with the players as much as possible whether in-game or in person.

Nice man but i suggest you don't get a loan from the bank, trust me my family are all selfmade. We've seen peeople go from the top to the bottom in a couple of months, when things don't turn out good as you planned you end up with a huge debt that mostly results in bankruptcy. it's really sad when it happens, but it happens a lot. Anyways, you can do it bro. Best of luck!

Forgot to mention, it can be a little easier to open a business with associates.

Thanks for the thought! I was planning on opening with a few friends already! As for the bank loan.. sad but that is true.. this was going to be my last resort if it was needed.. but maybe if i buy a item 3098 and attack the bank i might get a little more
