Pre-season account purge

What do you think about removing unused accounts to allow other people to use the name? Not deleting their game data, but disabling the account and renaming it to a generic name like "SummonerXXXXX". The accounts would still exist, the owner would just have to select a new name if and when they tried to log in. If this were done to accounts that had not logged in for the past two seasons it would free up hundreds of account names for people to use.

What do you all think? Should the original account owner always have the name, or should accounts be treated like ELO, and drop after a period of inactivity?

They already do this occasionally, sometimes coinciding with a name change sale.

They already do this! If an account is inactive for [Summoner Level] Months, the name becomes available for you to take with a name change!

they already do this. I think they said the account has to be inactive for 2 years before they free up the name

I like the idea of a mass purge rather than just once and a while!

They already do this, although it's an absurdly long period of time for level 30 accounts (2.5 years or something iirc) so meh. I'm still pissed someone took my name, I literally created it and have been using it since 1998 :(

If you have your sights on a name that is being held by an inactive account, submit a support ticket to request them to open the name up for you.

That being said, them automatically doing it on the names with the longest inactivity sounds like a good idea.
