This is so annoying, im the leader of a club but there is no one in the club so I LITERALLY cannot leave the club, since there is no one in the club I cant transfer ownership for whatever stupid reason, I cant leave the club if im the owner. Any thoughts?

Weird...definitely sounds like an edge case we didn't cover, or at the very least the way to deal with it just isn't clear. Always really annoying when things like this happen (I once had a printer-scanner that wouldn't scan if it was out of ink...WTF?)

I'm not sure what the solution might be, but I'll pass this on to the right people.

Are you guys working on expanding on clubs in the new client?

Add features that allow us to open our club publicly, allowing people to search for it.

For example I wanna have a club where we mentor new players. New players can sign up and we'll play with them and teach them the ropes. Also I cant make good club tags, since all the good ones are taken. I wanna have something simple like Iron, but I need to come up with weird tags full of punctuation and numbers to be unique.

Finally, would you allow us to display Club Tags BEFORE our usernames?

Think about pro players: Their club tags are put before their name, not after.

Its weird showing up as a suffix, can we display it in game as a prefix?

Thanks

There's a lot more we want to do with Clubs in general. We're currently focused on transferring Clubs to the new client, which is where we'll add new features. Don't know if we'll have anything new right when the new client is fully live, but we're pretty excited to share some of our ideas when they're a bit more solidified.

Some of the designers on my team are...finding a silver lining...in the fact that most of the software engineers that worked on Clubs are focused on the new client. We're doing a lot of exploration of what the coolest version of Clubs could be. As we do that we're figuring out what to do first. Most of the next bunch of features are largely based on player feedback, and what we as players want from our Clubs.

allow us to open our club publicly, allowing people to search for it.

These types of things are definitely in what we're looking at. Nothing specific to say yet because we're still finalizing designs and details are very likely to change. However, it seems we have the same goals :).

I cant make good club tags, since all the good ones are taken.

This is always tricky. One aspect of Club tags that is super important to me (as a player) is that they're unique. I want to rep my Club, not have some other random player be able to fake my awesome* Club (*awesomeness is extremely subjective >.>). At some point we'll have to do something to address this at least a little bit, but I think there's always going to be competition for Club names.

Finally, would you allow us to display Club Tags BEFORE our usernames?

Interesting question. My immediate thought is that we already use the prefix space for Ranked Teams, and it could get weird having both as prefixes. Totally agree on the analogy to pro teams. I'll ponder this a bit and talk it over with some people, but no plans in this direction at the moment.

P.S. Personally, I think the coolest version of Clubs involves a lot of pink and yellow polka dots, but people here aren't buying it. Especially visual designers. Hideous monstrosity that burns the eyes something something :(. They also don't like my pitch of all the interface buttons zooming around at random for extra mouse-precision practice. *Grumble* UX designers *Grumble*

Awesome thank you!!

Just to clarify I would still like club names to be unique, but the club tags should allow repetition. I'm sure this would create 10k clubs with the tag TSM, but is that really a bad thing if you REAAALLLY wanna have a TSM prefix? Also, I think as a Rioter you might be biased since you got in quick and made a cool club / with a tag. For me on the other hand, its close to impossible to create a Tag thats a real word. I think all the 5 letter words in the dictionary are taken =(, and I'm not really a fan of adding numbers and punctuation to stylize names.

And unique clubs are great, but first you have to increase the player count to more than 50 and allow people to search for and join clubs =)

I didnt know ranked teams still existed, thought that queue was removed and the CLUB tags were the product that would replace ranked team prefixes. I'm not sure what the rest of the players think, but I personally would like the tag as a prefix.

Ideally I wanted to create a club with the Tag "Iron". And invite all my friends so we could be Iron x and Iron y. Is this something that will be possible for me in the future? Or am I boned and I'm gonna have to track down whoever has the Iron club tag and join their club instead.... seems kinda lame from my point of view, that the only club i actually wanted create will never be possible for me to make because another player somewhere in NA already took the desired tag.

Anyways thanks for updating us, feel free to stop by sometimes and let us know what you're working on, would be fun to know more =)

I'd argue that this could be pretty bad. If TSM (the actual team) had a club for themselves and friends (they might, I don't actually know) that'd be a pretty exclusive Club with a lot of hype around it. If everyone can just copy that, how would you ever know if you played with someone from that Club, or if they were just from one of the bajillion other TSM Clubs. Now, imagine you're in that Club and you like the attention it gets you. How would you feel when seeing a TSM tag just isn't special and you don't get your "oh, man you're in the TSM Club?! Cool!"? Not everyone wants that, but I think group recognition is one of the best things about Clubs, and that will only get more true as we add more features.

I'm not really a fan of adding numbers and punctuation to stylize names.

Same. This is why I do agree we'll need to do something in the space. Other games have solved unique naming in some creative ways, and we'll have to take a look to see if there's anything we can do without really wrecking the concept of Club distinctiveness.

you have to increase the player count to more than 50

This is interesting, and we've talked about it quite a bit. We don't want to go too high because pretty quickly you'll have no idea who the various people are. People are really bad at tracking too many relationships, and we don't want Clubs to become large masses of whoever happens to be in there.

That said, there are a lot of cases where larger social groups are really useful. We're playing with some ideas that will hopefully keep Clubs relatively tight groups, but still get the benefits of much larger constructs.

and allow people to search for and join clubs

Still agree! At least in the general sense that we need to make finding Clubs way better than it is now.

Ideally I wanted to create a club with the Tag "Iron". And invite all my friends so we could be Iron x and Iron y. Is this something that will be possible for me in the future?

Depends on a few things. If we find a solution that lets tags feel exclusive and unique but still allows the same character combination, then maybe. However, there's a LOT to consider there, so a) don't know that we'll ever go there and b) if we do, it will be after quite a few other features probably.

We have to balance the needs of players looking to make new Clubs, and those of the players who already have them. For the owner and members of the existing Iron Club, maybe they created it for the same reasons you want to and they really value the exclusivity. They know they are THE Iron Club, not Iron Club #6072. For a lot of people there's a big difference.

I think as a Rioter you might be biased since you got in quick and made a cool club / with a tag

Covering this bit last. While it's true that the Club I rep most was created this way, I've tried to create a number based on tags I thought would be awesome and they were all taken. It sucks. I know exactly what you're talking about :(.

Can't promise anything other than we'll give it some thought (and the prefix part, I'll still be passing that on to talk about), but most likely it'll take a back seat to a bunch of the other (cool IMO!) stuff we're working on now.

Keep the feedback coming, it's good to get different perspectives. Even if the answer is often "yeah we'll look into it" or "not much to say right now". Wish I could commit to more this early but it's not fair to you (because we may never deliver) or to my teams (because it puts pressure on them to stick with early ideas even if newer ones are better).

Thanks!

No friend, thank YOU!

Im very happy with your point of view and your opinions and insights into the clubs.

While it's a really sick feature ( which BTW if you follow blizzard you know their trying to copy and implement in heroes) I know you guys can keep tuning it to make it more satisfying for all players involved.

Just to round out a conversation, I think you're bringing up interesting points regsrding unique tags.

While I'm in the mindset that there are millions of players and that we should allow some form of overlap , I can relate with yiur desire to make clubs unique and cool. I think it may be pushing it as there are millions of players in League, some which will never run into each other. Is it really fair to say oh hey you 50 deserve this cool tag and the other millions will have to bastardize it with punctuation id they want to have a similsr club.

Again I dunno what you guys got in the pipeline so maybe it's not as big of an issue which I'm making it. It was just frustrating trying to use the feature and not being able to create a nice tag. It was pretty disappointing and I just deleted that club. I'm not about to stick a bunch of numbers and punctuation next to my name to tag my club. If rather not use that feature at all rather than have to compromise so badly.

Regarding player counts. I don't think you should generalize XD. I'm the type of guy to add every single polite fun and new player to my friendlist.

My FL literally has a random section where I add people from games the boards etc. I love this community and I add these guys so I can play with them later. I easily have more than 50 people added this way.

If you guys can tune clubs, maybe I can just send em invites . I would love to create a club Or community full of cool, chill and new players. If this was possible I would invite many people to form a clan of more than 50. 50 might be a lot for some people, but honestly I just wanna have a clan of every single kind and xhill person who plays league. That way members can invite each other to form parties knowing that there are no ragers or trolls garunteed.

I think upping the limit would be awesome but it's not a big deal because I can't even create the club I want, and I'm not gonna settle for a subpar weird tag so I don't even use this feature. However clans do have more than fifty players, and if xlhbs only have fifty players were severely limiting who can use what club tags.

And is it worth having unique clubs if only fifty people can join? Say 60 or 200 people wanted to be a part of this club or have a specific tag. Are we gonna deny all these players just for the sake of the first fifty?

Thanks for chatting friend, you guys are awesome for keeping us in the loop. All I ask is you do your best I'm sure I can find other ways to play with brand new players and awesome people that doesn't include clubs. There's no need to change anything for me ( I don't even own a club anymore). I'm just worried that if I couldn't create a club now due to lack of names, how tough it will be for players further down the line as more tags get taken.

Have a great day pal thanks for all your insight !

Also as a follow up are ranked team names and tags unique? I honestly think that names should be unique but there could be multiple clubs with the same tag.

I agree with you that if I create a club , I don't want any imitations. However it's not really fair if I can capture a really sick tag because only fifty people max can display it.

I think that if everyone had a tsm prefix it wouldn't be the end of the world ( I think more than fifty people are tsm fans, should we deny them that tag or force them to punctuate?)

If you decide to go this route , you could always introduce capabilities to hover over the club tag to determine the club name ( which will be unique).

Idk I'm just pushing this because I just eanted to create a nice simple club where every nice person I meet could join, and potentially create a community. However I rage quit this product because I tried for 20 minutes to create a semi readable club tag and failed. It's a good product but I guess it's not really for me. I don't like to play second fiddle and be forced to use a subpar and/ or a shitty tag just because I recently created this club and all the good names were taken on day 1 by people with 5 club members.

RE: size, we want to support larger communities than 50 players. Clubs as they exist now aren't the best way to support that, so rather than shoehorn them into that function we're looking at more complete solutions.

RE: unique tags, we want to make sure that player can identify themselves and their group in ways that they value. The exact way to do that isn't totally clear yet, and I think even if we had a solid design now, it would likely have to change as Clubs evolve. We'll see what the future brings!

I think i managed to get pretty cool clan and clan tag. Unfortunatly i can't show you (because Russian language :3), but what i've done: i took a name of an old TV show, and used second name of the host as the clantag. Worked great =D
