Wards please?

I was playing a game today and no matter how much I asked, my support refused to buy wards. Eventually I decided to just buy them myself but I was just curious. I understand that wards are expensive and the support needs other items, that's why I warded myself. What bugs me is that the support refused to buy any at all. Wards are strategically important in game and I can't understand why she refused to get any. It was a ranked game and we eventually lost, so my question is, when is it inappropriate to ask for wards from your support?

It's never inappropriate to ask your support to buy wards. That is their job.. You just had a bad game, onto the next..

I main support. This doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about, but I have experience. It is the supports job to ward. More than at least 50% of the warding should be done by the support. The support must ward allied or enemy jungle depending on how the game is turning, as well as making sure all objectives are warded.

Now the idea of warding being a team objective can be subjective and can differ between players. Top doesn't necessarily need to ward, but it would be advised to protect from ganks. If the support can ward deep enough in the river, mid lane may not have to ward. Jungles who ward have a pretty good chance of always having a buff.

And by the way, if the enemy jungler has a brain, and knows your support isn't warding...... GG bot lane.

I would have to agree with Albert Fish that it is never inappropriate to ask for a support to ward. A non-warding support is like a non-ganking jungler... Some roles just have certain jobs.

Just be sure to ask as nicely as possible. It's very easy for people to get all upset over the internet just because someone pointed out something they are doing incorrectly.

Good for you for trying to pick up the slack, though.

As Albert Fish said, it really is never inappropriate to ask your support to buy wards. The support's job is to relatively create map control, which is also the jungler's job at times), keep you safe, and to assist the entire team. Primarily, when we think of important roles in a League of Legends match, we usually think of the ADC or the APC as they are the "damage dealers", but the support is just as important. Though their damage falls off late, utility will win the game fore the team, especially if the support is warding consistently. But you did a good job BrosephTripp, you took on the warding role and pretty much had another load put on you. Though you lost the game I guessed you experienced how not having a support or having your support absent-minded can cost you the game. She may have refused to buy wards as she was building towards another item that she considered to be more important to he/she. (Example item 3190 or item 3023 ) Why she refused to buy any wards will be a mystery forever...
