Honors Ribbons

I just want to hear every bodies thoughts about them.

They were a big deal when they first came out and a lot of people had them. Then it was made harder to get them. Now hardly anybody has them because:

  1. They are harder to acquire
  2. There isn't much hype to them anymore

I have only seen one teamwork ribbon in the last 40 games that i have played since the patch. Honestly I want to see more people with them, but it's almost impossible for the reasons I gave. In my opinion, I think they just need a rework to help them be more accessible to players.

What do you guys think?

It's tricky, but without some sort of self-motivation it's hard for people to actually "honor" others. People got tired of it because honoring someone doesn't help you, so it's easy to get lax and just never honor anyone.

There's been some discussion of making it easier to get honored by honoring people (say; honoring others reduces the amt# of honors you need for a ribbon) which is probably the best approach to the problem.

It's not a matter of how easy or hard honor is to get. It's about giving people a reason to honor others.

I used to have a teamwork ribbon, and did not like it. Felt like Rito was running experiments on me. One game I'd get matched with the saltiest scumbags around who would constantly rage/afk/whatever, next game I'd be matched with 4 other ribbons and it would be the exact opposite. Seemed like the ribbon was a flag for being dropped into various player behavior pools. Was not a fun time.

That said, I could be completely paranoid and nothing of the sort actually happened. But I was definitely more pissed off and salty myself BECAUSE it felt like the ribbon made me get matched with scumbags.

I feel like there needs to be some kind of benefit to having them, but tough to give out ip boosts or other random boons without people abusing the systems. Plus, at higher mmrs, people will spam honor so they can see who they're in matchmaking with on the other team and ban them out XD

They would have to start everyone back at Zero for it to matter is the problem. I still honor my teammates and opponents that don't rage after the game but I rarely get anyone giving them back.

Usually people just leave right after the game or just don't care about honoring cause they either don't know what it is (they haven't talked about it in a while and some people have joined since then) or what's the point? There is no incentive to honor anyone, if you have played a lot of games without getting anyone to honor you the same ribbon (I will sometimes get random ones but never the same one in a multiple game span) you won't ever get a ribbon.

I never really saw the point of the "honor initiative" to be frank. It is the equivalent of giving someone in kindergarten a Gold Star for being good, and it isn't as if they actually mean anything as I have seen people WITH ribbons be just as ridiculously toxic and rude as people without them. Usually when you see someone with a ribbon now a days it just means that person plays with friends that give each other honor because you aren't likely to get one otherwise.

isn't it also based on the total number of games you have? I've been playing since Closed beta. I have a few thousand normal games, most of those played by Season 2. I played some ranked in Season 2 and 3, but since Season 2 it's mostly been dominion or ARAM. Now, I mostly play ARAM's for fun.

SR as a map is so boring that I don't even want to play it.

I like it the way it is. If you make them to easy to get then they lose meaning. They aren't hard to get if you're being a nice person each game and your letting team mates get kills and not just yourself, I've had my Green Ribbon since I was about Level 10 or so and even before that I had 3 at once... Hurray for Bots \o/.

I'm pretty sure I got all three before I hit lvl 30. They aren't all too difficult to get, just be nice to people :).
