new player question... what is a "season?"

NateCanFly··1 votes·512 views

hello! i am a new-ish player, i am level 15 right now, and i like to play alistar and anivia. one thing i hear friends talking about is season 5 and sometimes i read things about previous seasons having different metagames. my question is, what differentiates these? when does one end and stop? is there a big difference between, for example, lol season 4 and lol season 5? thank you in advance. i could not find a board for new players or faq so i decided to post here.Anivia

each season is like each year league of legends has been a game. So like season one was from January to about the end of November. Then seaon 2 started in January again. At the end of each season Your ranked stats are reset and you have to play through 10 promotions again. Your last season still counts for your promos but you will still likely start in a Rank lower than you left off last season. At the end of each season riot usually gives out rewards for good behavior. Hope this helps explain

thank you :)

so at the beginning of each season, each ranked player starts over (or at least have to work back to where they were.)

Essentially yes. Riot does reset the ranked stats of everyone so they have to start over, and they have to work back to where they were.

Also, something else that Riot does between seasons (or what's called a pre-season) is they tend to do a big gameplay overhaul, mostly with items and the jungle monsters, something similar to what they did with the AP item changes, but on a somewhat bigger scale. They like to experiment with bigger changes during the pre-season because this is a time where ranked really isn't that big of a deal.
