I'm looking through all of these threads and I'm really astonished by the sheer meanness that some people are capable of. I'd imagine seeing all this kind of stuff could make anyone feel like trash on the best of days, so I felt obligated to come in here and give you an apology of sorts. I can only hope that you understand that these people are making up the vocal minority and that the majority of the community does not hate you. On the contrary, most people really appreciate both your contributions to the game and your patience in dealing with the community.

I would like to know how these people, who go ballistic over the existence of CB, and IS's preference for it, have the time and energy to care and rage about it as much as they do. They act like Riot is slaughtering whales or feeding pink slime to elementary students. They talk of a tragedy that does not exist, and it really tells of their mental health. I've seen people say things like, "**you **should listen to us," and, "you can't treat customers this way." These deluded children think that Riot is actually doing something wrong here... ONE employee told ONE thread of people to use CB when talking about a certain topic because that is his preference.

^^this. I come onto the forums more than I probably should, and yet I simply cannot keep up with some of these people. Honestly I wish some of them would actually get a job or volunteer position that puts them in an unpopular authority. Like a soccer referee, that's not only good money for a per-time job, you can learn how shitty it is is to be attacked from either side of an argument no matter what call you make just as is happening here.

It's just that this offers a place for the best suggestions to migrate to the top of the thread, as opposed to being ~15 pages deep after a number of pants-on-head retarded comments. IronStylus just wanted to see what the community liked best, not what was posted the most by 5 people on their multiple lv5 smurf accounts.

Yes he was enforcing the use of the beta forum, which he explained with solid reasoning. The idea was to send a message one time that questions about VU's would be more easily handled on the new forums.

I think that some people can have trouble with a format that does not have nesting. He's had discussions on Gd before and just gotten overwhelmed. He's not a bad person, but the old/new forums are good and bad for different people.

It's not even just nesting; CB has a notification system so you don't have to hunt for responses to your post. The system tells you who responded to what comment. That's my favorite thing about CB.

This is still a beta, thus can still be changed and improved. And the forums in their current state don't have a nifty notifications system; finding responses to your post is just a mess. I know your next argument will be "simply add this feature to the existing forums" which makes sense. However, it is apparently very difficult to customize the system the forums currently run on, particularly with notifications. I'm not the person to ask for details (having little to no experience with formatting web pages, etc) but that's what I've been lead to believe by other people who know more.

Also, the nesting limit is around 7 or 8 children per response, and while I agree more would be useful for very long discussions, we still have few more responses. Remember, this is a beta so maybe they will increase the limit eventually once they find that this is a common problem. They want it to improve. :)

And also, the thing I don't get, why does everyone say he's "enforcing" the Beta? He's simply saying he doesn't want to drop in at GD and move to the Beta. So he does, okay? I have yet to see anywhere he said "you must/have to/required to move to the Beta". Imho, GD was trying to force him to stay in a place he specifically stated as somewhere he didn't want to be anymore.

The CB has the potential to support multiple regions as well, not just NA, unlike the current forums. So it does have that going for it.

Yeah, when you say "I won't talk to you on these forums, talk to me somewhere else despite me responding directly to this thread right now!" and derailing an entire thread because of it, it tends to backfire slightly. I'm sorry to say but this is such a fallacious argument to use because he brought the backlash ENTIRELY on himself when he refused to even begin talking about it on GD and instead said he would only talk about it on the Community Beta.

I couldn't care less of his situation, he could easily have just said "I'm in lobby right now, I'll look at this some other time." and there would have been absolutely zero backlash.

I think that's under ** he's an artist not a politician**. It's an excuse sure, but hindsight is always 20/20, don't make it sound that easy, it's not. If my summoner name had the mount of visibility IS's has I wouldn't even consider posting on the old forums at all, simply because the community there devours red posts and spits them back at the Red in question so fast it's appalling. The fact that IS does it at all I feel deserves some respect and some god damn leniency on him being a human being and having a post that wasn't politically neutral and showing his own individual opinion. Anytime someone uses the argument IS is saying "you have to come over here to get my attention" I laugh, really I do, because the replies are "you have to stay over here because that's where we like to post". Yes the community should be heard and it's opinions are necessary, but individual to individual that so hypocritical it's funny.

This isn't as if someone from Riot's PR department came and told everyone to eff off. This is a passionate employee that likes to take part in discussions with the community. He doesn't HAVE to say a word if he doesn't want to. In other companies, people rarely see the amount of response and discussion as they would here; I wish more companies were like Riot because then most of their employees would be as passionate about the game as us players are...and that's exactly the case here.

Iron Stylus was ready and willing to talk. He simply prefers CB, for a number of reasons that he and others have pointed out.

The given nature of the internet at large is that anonymity leads to hostility. It's pretty easy to call someone out and beat their image to the ground when you yourself do not have an image to beat. The vast majority of people on the forums who rage and complain are only there to cause trouble, while those of us who really do appreciate the things Riot is doing for the game and community are playing the game instead of posting on the forums. Such is bound to happen in an environment such as this, it's best not to take things to heart, but to just ignore those wishing harm.

Most people are living in a dream. The trolls that iron is trying to avoid will just come here and up vote each other and down vote others.

Switching the format will solve nothing. Moderation would make the original forums workable. If Riot enforced the use of the other threads ie feedback, VU, ect for there discussions there would be way fewer problems.

Right now riot only responds to GD leaving the other sub forums empty wastelands. This is completely riots fault. They should of tried to actually fix the issue instead of going to redit and try to force a redit style i on the rest of us.

I personally hope that this BETA FAILS hard. The refusal of even trying in the normal forums does not deserve peoples unquestionable following.

As far as I can tell, the system the forums run on is just a stock forums system and is difficult to customize. One of the reasons they want to build it from the ground up is so that the community interface is made to their exact specifications. While I agree things like a "Report" button or some sort of notification system is sorely needed over on the forums, it is apparently easier to just make their own system than try to cram stuff into the other. I think of it as a way to potentially get any type of community we want.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the "reddit" style either. I think the nested responses are confusing when there's more than three responses, and I fear popular opinion will be the only opinion. But rather than gripe about how much I hate it, I try to voice what I don't like about it in hopes that a solution will come to light to make everyone happy. We can't do that on the current forums.

From how I understand it, adding to the old forums or making a new one is like fixing up an old car or making a new one out of new parts.

The old car needs repair, it needs help most will agree but you have to tear it down, replace parts, add in new ones, run into more problems tearing it apart and then you have put the dern thing back together again.

A new car starts as a bunch of different parts, each one you can look at before you buy and before you want to use it, make sure all the parts work well. And Beta-style you can get others to look over your shoulder and tell you that you may be using a wrong part or putting something in the wrong place as you build it so you don't to rummage back down.

Just because there are no results does not mean an attempt wasn't made. It just happens to be making an entirely new forum was easier for all involved than re-molding the older forums.

If your main problem is the current voting system, then propose something else they can use. It's a freakin BETA, if you come up with an idea that's better they may actually use it. Don't just walk in, say "I hope it fails" and leave, that doesn't do anyone any good. Here, I have a post about another way to use voting that you may like better, give it a read, comment, or not care at all, all good, but at least try to help.

IronStylus shouldn't have gotten all the hate he did, but I don't think he was entirely innocent either.

Riot should have known after all this time that GD doesn't want anything to do with the Reddit format, and people also get frustrated when they ask Riot a question, and a response really isn't one.

We have an innocent summoner asking a valid question, and then the parrot comes in plugging a thing that GD clearly doesn't like, not answering the question at all. At that point, Stylus should have bought some more wards, and would have been better off not commenting at all.
