A Great way to improve the matchmaking Que especially for draft games!

So I got into a draft game today and was at the champion select screen. Another guy and I had called top and jungle. Unfortunately for us the first person wanted to play elise no matter what and was going top or jungle. Well I was next to pick and while trying to communicate with my team, my time ran out, and I was kicked from matchmaking and received to penalty for bailing on a game. I thought to myself well that's not really fair I was communicating with my team and now I got punished because the other people couldn't communicate what they wanted to do. If I had picked something someone else wanted to do I probably would have been reported for trolling. I thought to myself I was there was a way that people could just get the role they wanted before going into the game. I know no one wants to talk competitors but it made me think of world of warcraft how there is a que system that takes into effect what role you are then I came up with this idea...

What if we had a que system where you could que up as the role you wanted? When you clicked play and selected what game you wanted you then selected whether you wanted top, jungle, mid, etc. and it then matched you with 4 other people who wanted the other roles? (A side idea is to take it a step further and have people select what champions they want to use for what roles and only have those champions show up when that role is selected to help reduce trolling even further).

If a system like this were in place not only would people not have to jump into a game and not only hope that they got put into champion select fast enough to call a lane but they would know that each other lane was properly filled. People wouldn't have to fight over positions. You wouldn't get stuck with a position you didn't want and your team could start communicating right away about the plan you want to take and how your going to execute it. I feel this would reduce trolling, reduce stress, and improve communication between people from the start. It would reduce arguing during champion select which would cause people to get along better from the start.

Some might wonder well what if everyone in the world feels like playing ADC, well once again WoW's que system as that covered. They now do a call to arms thing where whenever one role is way under filled in comparison to another and you que for that role you get something extra. Riot could implement something along the same lines where people who que'd for a lane that is highly under que'd for those people would say get an IP boost or something like that. This would also increase the likelihood of people trying out new lanes and new champions. It would increase people's champion pools and increase their knowledge and ability to play the game.

Now obviously this is not a perfect solution but I feel that this is about as close to it as we can get at this time and at the very least it's one giant step in that direction. Yes there will still be trolls and yes people may just que up to get that little extra boost and really have no clue what they are doing. That being said I think the positive outcome from this and the people who would use it appropriately would greatly outnumber the people who would use it negatively. Please help me get this idea up front and in Riot's mind. I think it's a great idea to help out the Riot community and will do what I can to get their attention on this matter. Thanks!

The Que time thing seems to be a big thing here. I would like to point out though that usually around 3 or 4am eastern time my longest que has been about 2 minutes maybe. There are millions of people who play league and thousands like my fiance for example who want nothing more then to just sit back and support. Also how did Tabe make Annie support a thing? He didn't just walk into a room and go "ok everyone Annie is now support", no he probably messed around a few times and goofed off with it and then was like holy crap this works. As for low levels who don't jungle, well not many are doing draft to begin with and none are doing ranked. That being said they could put into the coding that if there were two tops and no jungle that then the que could pop and you would have a game without a jungle like has happened many times. Again like I said this is not a perfect solution. It would obviously get tested in Beta and then I would only test it in normal drafts to begin with long before I brought it to ranked. Also if you check out this guy:

http://community.na.leagueoflegends.com/c/ideas/KkOI6k08-idea-personalized-champion-tabs-in-champion-select

He brings up a good idea about champion tabs in champion select where you have tabs of different lanes such as jungle, mid, adc, etc. Well if you combined that with this where in draft games you picked your role and then whatever role you picked was the tab that appeared that would once again lower the risks of people trolling. Millions and Millions of people play this game every day logging millions of hours, so there is no way to get rid of trolls altogether and there never will be, I am just trying to put some pieces together in order to make it a better game with less trolls, less fighting, and more imagination/creativity in the strategies and champions people play. sure maybe 1 out of 10 trolls and 3 out of 10 que as support and have no idea what they are doing (great learning & honor opportunity btw) but that means 6 times out of 10 your going to get someone who knows exactly what they want, who they want to play, and where they are going. Meaning over 50% of the time (based on those numbers of course) this will make games better, faster, and more fun and to me that's what it's supposed to be all about!

P.S. Sorry if I didn't rebuttal everything it's 5:30 am and I haven't gone to bed yet lol trying to reach gold for that Elise skin!

Here's the thing, in theory its a great idea. Id run support all the time. The problem is, nobody could trade to counter another lane, and the que times could be hugely increased when nobody wants to jungle and to add to that, you wouldn't be able to duo top cuz you cant match up top choices. I wish there was another way to accomplish the goal, and i completely agree with you, it's just not something that riot will see as a viable solution. You'll have, for example: 10:top 12:mid 7:jungle 8:adc :2supp.... and when those supports are gone the rest of the people will be waiting for another person to choose support. im not trying to bash your idea, cuz i like it but i just dont see a real way to balance out the near infinite queue time, and not being able to trade for counters. You still have my ^ tho

Love the idea soooooooo much.

Hm, this is a good idea. Riot should add a little extra time button for people to communicate with their teammates more. That way there would be less argument over lanes.

I have thought of this so many times and was wondering when this idea would come up. This is similar to how WoW sets up their raiding and it is a wonderful idea to prevent teams from arguing and people fighting over the same roles every time they go to queue for a normal game. I support this idea 100%

This is a great idea.

This is a pretty good idea but here are some of the problems that I see with it.

  • It's too meta-restricted. What if people want to try something new in the game, or lower levels where jungling isn't too common there could be problems there. I like how you compare this idea to WoW's but the problem is that in WoW that is how it dungeons have to be done, League is different. A fix to this would be to just add a different queue for this option, but that leaves to another problem

  • Queues would be longer. If this feature would split into a different queue as said before, that would split the players the like and dislike it making the queues longer. Even if it wasn't split into two different queues it would still slow down if there was a lack of a role (say like support)

  • The "Call to Arms" feature. If any role would get this most of the time is support. I believe that this would cause people to build AP supports and not really be a support (a bit contradicting myself on the first point I know). Traditional supports would die out I believe.

I could be absolutly wrong and this could be the best thing to happen to League but this is just my insight on this. I'm pretty sure Riot said they wouldn't be doing this type of thing though

This has already been suggested many, many times before.

welovemuffin9/30/2013, 10:20:31 PM1 votes

This been suggested before and Riot has specifically came out and said that they would not do this because it would stagnate the meta. What would happen if someone tried to go support Annie before Tabe made it a thing? What if someone wanted to try double jungle? Even worse, someone could que up as support to gain the extra ip and then say, "mid or feed". It sounds good in theory, but it is not a practical solution to this problem. Keep theorizing though, maybe eventually the community will come up with a fix to the problem you presented.
