Don't Buy Accounts

Trollhydra··23 votes·2,285 views

Just wanted to say I went away from league for about a year or two, came back when some of my friends and girlfriend started playing it to see my account was taken from me with the name changed and everything. After about only 3 days of customer service (Amazing job on that one Riot was expecting at least a week or two) I got my account reinstated. I come back to see the person bought a bunch of goodies that now belong to me =D. Only downside? I might be stuck with this name.

If you bought your account take this as a warning, an old player could return at any time.

EDIT: You can buy name changes with IP now YYAYYYYY

Wait, did you buy an account and then have it taken back or did somebody somehow take control of your inactive account? I don't quite understand what you are trying to say.

Quit playing for a year or so from about beta to have my account stolen. Riot sent me some emails that security was breached and there was a possibility of some accounts being stolen. League selling accounts is actually a business trust me after this fiasco I kinda looked at some forums.

Possible I got a virus and got keylogged but I'm very careful and suspect if I have one I reformat.

Keylogged = steals LoL account xD] Edit: If you were keylogged, this is beyond petty.

If I were that guy, I would have my bank take the money back from Riot. I wouldn't expect to keep the skins too long.

Still hilarious to me. I've looked through the skins and none of them are really champs I enjoyed playing anyhow.

I'm not sure he would be able to...?

I mean, first if he made the purchases via prepaid cards rather than credit card transactions, I don't see what the bank could do even if they wanted to.

Otherwise, let's say it was credit card transactions. Again I don't know, but why would a bank just retroactively remove payment from a company on a customer complaint? At bare minimum they should be asking the company what happened from their view and doing some investigating. I guess in this case maybe the bank won't care what riot's rules are and would take the money back, but what I'm saying is that in general if banks just take money back without permission from companies and without good cause, it's a good way to stop companies accepting your credit/debit cards...

Then again, I'm not working for a bank so what do I know.

Its called charging back. Yes it exists. It also soils your credit score. Don't do do it. Only a child that knows nothing about how credit cards would suggest you this terrible idea.

Well I was aware that you can complain to the bank about a purchase and have it removed, I was not aware of specifics.
A family member was told he'd have to put a deposit for student housing before the institution had chosen whether to accept his application and when he didn't get the deposit back 2 months after he was rejected he complained to the credit card. They asked him to not file an official complaint for his money back and to give them some time to work on it since the school had been good in the past, within 3 days he had his money back from the school.

I just wasn't aware an individual could unilaterally tell his bank to reverse a purchase. Glad it wrecks their credit though, because it definitely should have consequences. Thanks for the info.

Honestly If (for the sake of an example) riot banned one of my older accounts with skins On it. lets say.. "TenslashTen" in LAN or "Jungle" in KR suddenly perm banned? I would definately charge back all previous money spent.

But I would destroy my credit score since really "online" is really all i use this for.

And now that I think about it. I might not be able to since its a card attached to a bank account that just withdraws whats in my account.. Its not actually a real credit card... hmm idk... never actually discussed this with them because I'm honestly not stupid enough to buy something I know isn't good quality or will get me into that situation...hmm..

Anyway. I'd do the same.

I would charge back.

I can always build my credit back up. I can't however somehow shit the X amount of money I spent on league over the years. I would basically probably get between 800-1,000 back within a week and the rest over a longer period since most of my purchased are over the course of 5 years instead of in sudden bursts.

But I'm poor and I tend to be very frugal with my money. So if something drastic like this would happen I would have to be drastic as well.

Does Riot's terms and conditions prohibit the buying and selling of accounts? If it does, and that person would have had to agree to them in order to play, then I doubt the bank would be able to do anything

Yes it's against rules to account sell, it's even against the rules to account share at all.

I'm all but certain that the T&C do prohibit this, but the person is in the wrong. Sucks to be that guy.

Just did some poking around the ToU and found this for you guys:

OP, My biggest concern is how your account was acquired by another person in the first place. If someone else managed to get your info that's one thing, And I sincerely hope you didn't sell it yourself.

How exactly did someone end up purchasing your account?

Had the exact same experience. I guess alot of accounts were stolen at some point and sold.
