Season Rewards/Negation Possibility Due to Bans

To Riot, and all those who have heard about the potential loss of rewards to those who received bans, I have a suggestion. To preface this, I received a 2 week ban this season for calling someone trash. I get that this is not cool behavior. However, this is my ONLY ban I have ever received. I have been playing League since just after it came out of beta. You know, the days when Jax stacked 5 ninja tabi for the dodge stat ;). In that time, what is that, 6 years? I have received one (1) ban, this season. i'm never racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. My toxicity is something like "dude you're bad", and that's rare. We all have that game that just gets to us.

Riot, you should not take away our rewards this season. People work hard for their position, and the game has made great strides in becoming a more welcoming environment. I suggest that instead of taking away rewards this season, let people have their rewards. Then, at the beginning of next season, announce that anyone who receives any sort of ban or chat restriction will not be eligible for rewards. This way, instead of blindsiding people and hitting people with that harsh penalty, you'll let them know beforehand that any sort of poor behavior will result in punishment. This is a good way to prevent toxicity without taking people by surprise. The given goal behind punishment in League is to cause reform, not to push people away. If people understand the implications of their poor behavior, they will be much more careful in their words and actions. That's my take, at least, and I believe it is highly in line with what Riot hopes to accomplish with their system of punishment and reward.

This isn't a new thing, they did it last season too. It shouldn't have been a surprise.

There are always frustrating games and trolls, feeders etc. But most people are able to cope with this in various ways that doesn't result in toxicity. Sometimes it's an exercise in self control. Now if you didn't feel like you deserved the ban, you could always try talking to customer service and usually they'll point out what in the chat logs warranted the action. A few cases where there might have been an overreaction.

Well to be fair, taking away ranked rewards was always on the table for toxic players (At least for a year now), its just with Lyte's recent blunder people were very confused as to what exactly is changing. They have been taking away ranked rewards for extremely toxic players for a while now. Whether you deserve to be lumped with that group of people is debatable probably, but just know this isn't all that new, and if Riot did a better job of communicating it, it probably wouldn't have blindsided that many people.

Some punishments are designed for reform, such as chat restrictions/ranked restrictions. Bans are beyond that, bans are there to push you away, and quarantine you before you cause more damage to the community. If you were banned, 9 times out of 10 it's usually because you were incredibly toxic either in a handful of games, or consistently toxic across a large number of games.
