[idea - feedback] Giving newer discussion/posts an easier time

While I do enjoy some of the features and advantages this forum layout provides, one point I don't like as well as being general accepted is that new discussions have somewhat of a hard time popping out and seen by people.

Knowing what's popular is nice, but it isn't exactly what I feel should be seen by everyone when they get here. I believe having newer threads displayed first would allow said discussions a better chance at being seen.

Obviously some people, myself included, have it set so I see the new discussions when I load up the page but I strongly believe it should be either of the following.

-Have "recent" has default sorting options and keep rest as is. This is basically swapping the default order options for people that don't have any set. If someone has set it so they see the hot stuff then that stays as is. Someone that doesn't have any options set will see new discussions instead.

-Have the main column of the layout display the new discussion while having on the right, or somewhere else 1 or 2 extra blocks displaying "popular/hot threads" and perhaps one for stickies.

This simply gives a little bit of everything to everyone. Left display is the new stuff and right display is the popular ones. win-win.

Obviously this is a beta and not everything is final, but it would be nice that when we filter threads by "recent", it actually filters the by latest post entered in it. Also a quick note on new posts, this might required some more fine-tuning, but it would be nice if there was a way, similar to the red tracker, to jump directly to the new posts and move through them instead of browsing the entire thread for what's new. Can you imagine trying to find new posts in a 300+ post discussion? holy balls

Anyways my writing sucks and gl.
