Looking for a Top lane main

As much as i want to do Urgot..i just cant win with him even if I win my lane..he just falls off so hard. Would Volibear or some other champ work for a player who likes to poke and harrass while farming, I dont mean lane bullying I mean the ability to zone them out of farming (which is easy with Urgot) but doesnt fall off late game. any thoughts?

Urgot falls off because of how you and most other players build him, if you really look at his kit... and I mean really take a look at what its for..

hes meant as an ADC BRUISER... yes yes... it sounds weird I know... but urgots whole style is about getting into a fight, and constantly hitting EVERYONE with your auto attacks in the fights, mainly the hard AP or AD carrys to reduce their damage.

Items like Manamune are obvious, but frozen heart, frozen mallet, randuins, banshees, last whisper should almost 99% of the time make up the rest of your kit.

WITH THAT ASSIDE

other very viable top laners who can zone people hard

Jarvan - If you use his passive properly, no melee, and half of the ranged tops cant out trade you in lane, simply hit them, then go back to farming, when the 8-9 second delay falls off, hit them again, keep doing this.

Jayce - a good jayce can hard zone most champions, and he has good self peels along with good long range burst, he can really match up against most people. When stuck vs a quin, just wait till her Q falls off by backing off, then go back in, you can easily out trade her

Lee - Often overlooked because hes a jungler, his laning can be amazing if you know how to properly play him ( this means not always maxing Q first against some enemys, sometimes you want the higher shield )

Renekton - get in, hit a Q to restore HP, hit a stun, dive back away. He can harass even ranged champions with little counter from enemys outside people with blinds

VI - Another champion capable of sitting behind a wave and still poking enemys, then closing gaps hard and fast for ganks

Yorick - He falls off late game only if you build him improperly, just like urgot, the choices you make in gear will determine how effective or how terrible you do

Wukong - he doesn't fall off... simply put, if you learn how to use your S key to "fake" stealth juke, and play right, you will almost never get beat

Volibear has no poke, can be tanky. passive is nice and has good wave clear. Chogath has great poke and wave clear and great sustain. all of his abilitys will harass the enemy. Gets very tanky and is ap which its good to have an ap top when your team is weak on ap. Ult which can take half the health or more from an adc or apc. use his q rupture around the minon they are going after and they will miss due to the knock up. hes kinda my fav lol. Yorick has 2 pokes great sustain can be tanky. Ult which can make a 6v5. MonkeyKing jump in jump out poke great ult for teamfights. Vladimir another ap top with poke sustain and tanky. Gnar ranged like urgot but then becomes tankyer and melee. defintaly harder to master then most. good poke and escapes. Renekton good harass, sustain, tanky. no pokes tho. Pantheon good poke and harass. ult is fun to gank with. Shen good harass and poke. fight changing ult.

well my thoughts are if you think urgot falls off, you need to build and kite better, that being said, ill give you a list of champions that if you master you will be godly with, i didnt say climb, because its really hard to climb in solo q.

  1. olaf, imo the best top laner shy of lissandra, he just does everything, hes not bad, you simply understand his passive and learn to stack health, you rush a bork and stack health, then you just profit, i recommend maxing true damage first and W second, why? his true damage cooldown is reduced by autoattacks, w gives you alot of attack speed and sustain, you are also hurting yourself, so this helps your passive, and its good to heal it back with w, 1 point in axes to kite, all thats needed.

  2. lissandra, she really can beat anybody top lane, you cant kill her, you cant catch her unlesss shes a bad lisasndra, she scales hard into late game, and when she ults a carry, its dead no questions asked, if you build for max cdr and regen, you will be throwing out 700 damage q's lategame with a 1.8 second cooldown, ryze will be jealous.

  3. chogath, if you can learn to land his q, its a terrible hitbox i know, and realize its better to build him for tanky attack speed over ap, you will do very well with him, he can sustain vs most of the tough matchups, and he beats lissandra out right.

  4. irelia, come on, its irelia, if farming all game and juking 3 man ganks is your thing, you can be that hard carry late game, i dont know to much more about her as i have never really played her much, i just know rush trinity.

  5. darius, wait what? darius? yes, but never first pick him, pick him into favorable matchups like irelia, and learn to freeze your lane, also check out some good guides on him, trinity force is really strong because of the phage movement speed, and the sheen procing with his w for 400% bonus damage.

ask me about any other champions that arent adc, and i probably can tell you the pros and cons, i took 5 minutes out of my life typing this, so your welcome.

If you like Urgot's playstyle, I would suggest trying Quinn Quinn or Gnar Gnar. Ofc, they would not have exactly the same playstyles, so you would have to adjust some anyway, but I see both of these as viable top laners. I couldn't tell you anything much about Gnar, but Quinn is very similar to Urgot. She has more auto range, but lacks the extra range from abilities. Her blind is quite nice though (AOE as opposed to Teemo's point-and-click). The one thing you would have to get used to is the roams, which are quite potent on her once she hits six. Urgot can roam of course, but he doesn't have anything like the mobility Quinn (Valor) does.

If you want the range, I would suggest Teemo or even someone like Sivir. On the other hand, if you just want to be able to zone/harrass, I LOVE the new Sion. Singed is also great.

Sion's highly telegraphed moves and immense early damage due to his Q/W are often enough to actually scare away the opposing top laner. IE: they're going for CS? You set up a q around your own minions. Even if you don't hit anything at that moment, they run away so they don't get hit.

They go for a minion further away? Shoot a minion rocket at them with your E. It's just plain fun.

Singed has that awesome slow and his toggled poison is amazing. Leaving behind that dust cloud can help you section off minions/farm faster than your opponent. When they get in close, just put down a cloud of the poison. They'll either power through it and take lots of damage from all the damage, or they'll go ahead and run away so you can farm.

Final suggestion, and I'm still kinda screwing around with this as a possibility (i usually take him for support), take Malphite and just max your Q first.
