Looking for a certain kind of anime....

So like...I know people who are really into it. And I've liked some of it.

Stuff I've liked: Metropolis The Ghost in the Shell movies (not so much the series) Blood the movie ( the old one at the military base) Death Note (although I lost interest later on and stopped watching after everybody killed everyone and it got lame)

So like....I hate super wordy animes. I don't like the very "Japanese" style of dialog where they explain everything to a T to the point where it is bothersome.

I could never get into the super "kiddie" shows like Naruto or DBZ or anything like that.

What I like are animes with Japanese animation quality, but American style dialog and darker or heavier themes if that makes any sense. Like, more realistic or believable stuff...and shows or movies where they don't talk you to death with just ass loads of dialog and crap. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
