advice for a bad player

I posted this originally in the "positive play" thread, but I don't really think it belongs there. So,

I'm bad at this game, and don't chat much because i know it hinders my gameplay. Because of this, I am aware that I have been reported several times for "intentional feeding" and the like. Nevertheless, I try to keep positive, as I know that it will help the morale of people on my team. And even if one person is sucking it up, if the rest of the team does well, that makes for a good game, right?

I submit myself before the tribunal's judgement.

As a player, I am aware that my skill cannot be matched pound for pound against many other players in the game. So I often try to play to outwit my opponents rather than outplay them. This involves playing many characters outside their traditional roles, changing item builds to "hatedraft" against opponents, and changing laning patterns to confuse opponents. When playing with friends that are comfortable going with this idea, it can be quite effective. When going in solo queue, I am accused of trolling and feeding.

When in solo queue, I try to mediate the bickering of my teammates. However, due to my inferior skill, I am often ignored on the premise that since I am not good at the game, I do not know what I am talking about. I am often chastized for trying to suggest plans of action for my team. Does this mean I should not speak or act until I have played more games, or should I continue, despite not being as knowledgeable?

Is positive play truly a balancing factor for poor skill? Many people that I would play with would certainly disagree, as no amount of attempted help and following directions is going to counteract the negative emotion following an inevitable loss. I have often been told to uninstall the game by teammates and foes alike. However, the want to improve and the constant requests from friends to play the game keep bringing me back. So, what then?

I welcome any advice that the LoL community has to offer.

I would try to focus on one champion in a single role and get really good at the mechanics of that champion.

Try to play safe and only fight when you have a clear advantage.

Don't tower dive at early levels to get kills.

Practice your last hitting and try to get as much gold as possible.

Focus on warding entry points to your lane and practice glancing at the mini map on a constant basis to see if anyone is missing from their lanes.

Once you have gotten as good as you can get with 1 champion, try another champion in a different role. As you do this you can expand your playable champion pool so that when you do ranked you aren't in a bad spot when someone else takes your role.

You should generally be playing against people of equal skill, but if you use inferior strats and item builds, you will not do well against most opponents. Like Lightningfst suggested, spam one or two champs in a single role many many many times in a row. You will learn the ins and outs of that champ and how to play against all the different opponents you might face in that lane. This will help when trying new champs in that lane since one of the biggest things is knowing what the enemy champ does, cool downs of abilities, how aggressive you can be, etc. Once you master one or two champs and get comfortable with a lane, do the same thing with every role. Then pick your favorite and play that most of the time...but if push comes to shove you will be able to play other lanes without losing the game.

TL;DR: Practice.

Lightningfst has some great tips, some that I learned myself the hard way. I was always an overly aggressive player in the beginning, I'd lose my mind if I let someone get away with just a little sliver of health. One more basic attack, and they're dead! I'd tower dive for that one last hit, and often get killed by the tower in the process. Many times without the kill i dove for. Think if it this way though, If you hurt them bad enough for them to recall, that is a victory for you. Because while they are back at base healing, you are getting more farm and xp while they are gone. Therefore, you will have more gold to buy items, level up faster to strengthen your skills, and be able to secure skills more easily. Also, WARD. I know you dont want to waste your precious gold on a ward, but they save lives. You can detect ganks, and maintain vision of enemies long enough for that one final strike. So my biggest tips are: 1- play passive! just keep farming and let them make the mistake of tower diving. 2- practice last hitting minions. VERY IMPORTANT. More farm=more gold=better items. 3- be nice to your teammates. if you need a gank, just ping once or twice to let it be known you need help. if you get pissed off and ping twenty times and get mad, the team will just turn on you. be patient and friendly 4- Have fun! The game is meant to enjoy, so enjoy it! Even if you are outplayed and outmatched, hey! Maybe you can learn from their skills and incorporate it into your toolbox.

bahaha, good luck with that. it's like walking into a mental institute, and asking for something far fetched.
