Season 4 Rank Placement Predictions

Hello! I was really wondering about how the ranking placement will be like prior to Season 4. Will players be placed in the same ELO no matter what their division is? I'll set an example. For instance, a Season 3 Diamond 5 player will be placed around 2200 elo and will a Season 3 Diamond 1 player be placed the same or higher? This is important to know because a lot of players want to reach a certain rank/division before the season ends on the 31st. Either if its Gold 5, Platinum 5, or Diamond 5. This post is just a quick discussion on the up-coming ranking placement that is going to happen in the next month! Feel free to let our your predictions and opinions!

I assume it'll work similar to it did at the end of season 2. Though there may be some small differences in how things appear, just because they were going from the Elo system from before, to the new tiered league system they use now. But as far as MMR is concerned (what matchmaking actually uses), I figure it'll go through something similar to what we saw before.

Last time, they did an Elo compression, rather than a full reset. They used 1200 as their center-line. And then gave you an adjusted rating based on what your ending Elo was from S2.

These aren't exact numbers, but as an example, a player who ended at 1200 would stay 1200 (remains at their center line). A player who ended at 1300 might get pushed to, say, 1220-ish. A player who ended at 1500 would get placed around 1300. Players who were 2000+ might be placed around 1500 to start the new season.

So as far as MMR for season 4, I have to guess that they'll do a similar style of MMR compression. They'll probably use that as your base MMR going into your provisional games. Once your provisional games at the start of the season are done, you'll get your first league placement based on your MMR at that point.

BUT, I know they're also looking at revamping or modifying the league system a bit. So depending on what they do with it, the reset strategy might change as well.
