I was playing my provisionals and I ended up getting stuck with Gold teams and Gold enemies. One game, I even had a Platinum Katarina at mid. I'm obviously not Gold material, but I kept getting matched with these people. I did really poorly but I don't think it was fair because I wasn't against players of my skill level. What am I doing wrong? I'm not vvvortic and I don't deserve challenger, but in S4 my provisionals landed me in Silver II and I didn't take any breaks significant enough to cause a loss of skill to knock me down to Silver V. I don't know what I did. What's going on? Did they change the matchmaking algorithm for S5?

Your MMR was high enough to match up against players at a higher rank than you. They may have been slightly better but that could also have been a result of you mentally defeating yourself once you saw their rank & not playing as well as you normally would. Your MMR is likely still high enough that you can climb back to where you were fairly easily because you will earn more LP from wins than you lose after losses until you reach your true rank.
