Does ranked really do anything right now?

I know that S3 prizes has ended, and the new patch isn't out yet. And everyone was crying because ranked was down. I understand normals have trolls in them but whats the point of ranking up in ranked anymore if the new patch isn't out, and none of it will matter?

Riot has released a FAQ that is visible in the patcher and in the client's main window. See this link for details.

According to the FAQ, playing ranked in the preseason allows you to place higher when S4 starts.

Does that mean if i reach gold, im likely to get gold starting out next season? or ill be around gold, or will there still be 10 games you have to play and those will decide.

This is all confusing.

It all depends on your sweet hidden MMR.

If you ever reach gold MMR in preseason then you'll get a better chance of getting back that MMR if you do good on your placements. I hope that helps.
