Most people don't discuss their gender in game so it's pretty hard to tell. I'd imagine it's a pretty large number and growing though.
I know all these female youtubers but they only play lulu and have insane high pitched voice xD 
I've never met a guy gamer in any match probably because gender doesn't really come up naturally in a game.
For all I know, I could have been playing with all girl teams. Hell, it was girls who introduced me to this game.

IRL, I know like 7 girls who play LoL. I know A LOT more that play other games (Halo, FF, Destiny, etc)
For one why does it matter what sex a player is? Plus even if a female was playing she isn't going to announce it....I know I wouldn't want 12 yr old boys trying to chat me up.
90% of the league community is male the other 10% are female so chances are you've had some in your games
i knew a few that play LOL but most girls i know who are gamers just dont like LOL it dose not appeal to them as much as other games they usually just dont like moabs if they do they usually like dota2 (idk why) but that's in my experience
prob a bit less than a quarter are league players. The people online who claim they are girls are prob the same gamers who select a girl character on Skyrim and make her as hot as possible.
there are a lot, and more join as time goes on.
