Chat Restrictions: How It Affects Us.

I am "Top" and this is my feedback on the chat ban system.

I am currently chat restricted for 25 more games on my main account "iLikeItOnTop" and 51 on my smurf "iOwnTopLaners."

I have seen Riot and many other people catch flak for instilling and commending this kind of punishment on League of Legends users. This has taken me from being a "Toxic" player to a "Team" player. I have suffered other types of punishments from the Tribunal before on different accounts in season 3-4 and have even had a few accounts banned. While I don't like the severity or length of the ban (I've seen 1116 game chat bans) I do believe this is an effective way to help transform the toxicity of the player in question.

Upon getting into your game after the load wait you will notice in the chat box these messages. "Due to negative activity on this account, chat messages are currently limited (shown beneath the chat box." "Additional messages will be granted as the game progresses; communication in /all chat is unavailable" Messages available 3/5

This is leagues way of telling you that you are toxic and need to learn how to calm down. The messages available will increase as time progresses into the game. You may expend your messages however you like, I however, suggest that you use these to communicate positively instead of flaming or raging more, this will only result in an extension of your chat ban.

I am like everyone else,** I rage**,** I flame** and** I get frustrated**. Perhaps I shouldn't take it out on my team, after all, they are not to blame for my behavior as it is my own. While I'm sure I will catch a bunch of hate or "you're an idiot" comments or messages (if any at all) I can assure you that this has changed my view on how I express my feelings in game and how I communicate with my team.

This being said I have a few tips and ways to help you to keep from being like me and getting the dreaded message of chat ban doom.

1. Simply hit your enter button upon entering a game and type "/muteall" this will mute everyone on your team the enemy team as well. While they can still see your chat you will not see theirs.

2. Communicate via Smart Pings. This is an effective way to help your team know what is going on around you.

3. Go into you TAB menu and simply click the Speaker Icon next to the player you wish to mute, voila, they are muted.

4. In game hit the ESC button and select *Interface, scroll down a short way and on the right side you will find a box labeled **Show [All] Chat (Matched Games) Simply Click the [x] the box and voila, the enemy team is now muted.

All of these methods will help you keep from chatting with people you may potentially "rage" at and cause problems with. I know, it seems repetitive or you're thinking "why should I listen to him, he's the one who is chat banned, not me." This can happen to ANYONE for even the slightest bit of raging. Bans can range from 5-XXXX digits, I wouldn't want this for anyone because I miss chatting with my friends every second.

Also if you currently have a chat ban at the EOS, you will Not be eligible for the end of season rewards such as, Banner Borders, Ward Skins, Victorious Skins (assuming you're gold or higher) and other nifty things RIOT has elected to give out.

How chat restrictions affect me

Game feels like shit because I instinctively allchat "hax" and I'm not allowed to split my sentences into multiple lines

Yeah, I feel Riot should enable a self-chat-restriction button so people can self-medicate rather than waiting for Riot to do it to them, I know a number of reformed players comment on having a self mute being very helpful. I'm glad you're finding ways to improve yourself and I hope more people encourage you in it!

Be quiet. You are massively incompetent. What is the point of even having the ability to chat with the other team if your solution is to "mute everyone"? Negativity is subjective but Riot has turned every player into an overly sensitive crybaby. The chat restrictions haven't fixed anything. All they've done is create more frustrated players who relentlessly ruin games because they are unable to express themselves in chat. People don't say anything anymore for fear of being banned. The only people I see talking in game are Chinese/Korean players in their native language.

Question: Where did they announce they are rejecting players end of season rewards for bad behavior? I see it on the boards and reddit, but when I google it, I can't find any news or release from Riot themselves on it. This alone makes it completely ridiculous that they should do such a thing. The idea in question is so subtle and why decide this right at the end of the season? Why was there no announcement of it at the beginning of season 5? Wouldn't it have been more initiative for players to be more friendly if they would have told us before the start of season 5?

I don't find it fair and for one reason: They say that they give out chat restrictions to those who are higher than average toxic and complain about teammates and flame. For those with extremely bad behavior, like racism, sexism, homophobia, and death threats, they get temporary bans. I was banned for 2 weeks TWICE. Guess what? I NEVER was directly insulting anyone on my team. I have NEVER been racist, sexist, or homophobic. I NEVER tell people to get cancer or whatever garbage I've heard OTHERS on my team do, yet I got banned. Literally the WORST thing I have ever said to anyone on League is to those ragers who die once then blame the team and sit in fountain typing a novel about how much he wants us to all die. You know what I said? "Dude stop being an asshole, its just a game and shit heads like you shouldn't have the privilege to play it." Not even joking. I'm not ok with death threats, I'm not ok with people who are discrimminatory. It's just morally wrong and I would and have NEVER said such things to anyone on league. I've called people idiots or bad, but only when they flame at me and start targetting me.

Was what I said toxic? Hell yeah it was, but guess what? I'm human. When you get 7 trolls in a row and the last one is a hardcore rager, it gets to me, it gets to anyone. Was it really worth a 2 week ban? Hell no, and honestly the people reporting the most are those who are toxic. The people that don't rage or don't really get super competitive about the game or about losing are the ones that don't care, they just look at stats and leave. The ragers are the ones reporting because they want to punish their "shitty teammates."

I admit, I was toxic in the past, but I barely talk in chat anymore because it's not worth my time or effort. I've been reformed, yet I'm going to be punished YET AGAIN simply because I got banned back in May? I'm so sick of Riot, they really know how to fuck up a good game.

Can you not just close, shrink or move your chat box off screen? I really don't get your point here at all, you're the reason they have chat restrictions and being chat restricted on both of your accounts probably means you're close to getting straight up banned, I'm guessing you probably have already.

Anyway - Just use voice chat and play with friends, cuss out your randoms over voice chat and have a laugh or take out your frustrations there.

OP i commend you on your shit talking tenacity, but you really need to learn to circumvent the chat ban. there are plenty of ways to unleash the Trundle summoner 14 on your team, try intentionally feeding, or baiting your teammates into saying something you can report them for. anyways good luck in the rift, see you in ranked!

I thought when you muted someone they couldn't read your chat. Lol I feel silly now bc I will mute people I'm frustrated w/ so I don't insult them, and I've definitely said things about their play assuming they couldn't read my text bc I would have been more polite about it or ignored the bad play if I knew they'd read it and not just my team.

I mean it's not often, but I seriously thought "Na, draven hasn't been grouping and he's raging hard, just pretend he's afk or so bad that he doesn't know what a mini map is and let's play around him so we can still win" was something I could say to my team to help them adjust to a bad player and if I muted the draven I could do it w/out insulting the guy.
