Default Quick Cast is NOT a Solution!

Relatively recently Yasuo's Q's received a relatively un-common special treatment...

It received an automatic quick cast setting due to the abilities frequent use especially late into the game.

This is a PROBLEM. And has been for quite awhile. Because of this type of treatment, some skills such as Cassiopeia's Noxious Blast HAVE NEVER RECEIVED AN AoE INDICATOR.

Currently 10 Champions now have received this special treatment:

Ahri's Spirit Rush
Cassiopeia's Noxious Blast
Fizz's Playful and Trickster
Irelia's Transcendent Blades
Karthus's Lay Waste
Riven's Broken Wings and Valor
Urgot's Acid Hunter
Vayne's Tumble
Yasuo's Steel Tempest (first and second actives)
Zyra's Rampant Growth

With that said... I understand why many of these abilities are smart casted. But until this happened to Yasuo I never realized how badly this negatively impacted my experience. Normally I like to aim my skills without smart cast in my spare time to get a good feel for the range and size of abilities before I smart cast them to ensure that I use the skill properly.

However when Smart Casting was forced upon Yasuo's Q, I could no longer do that and it made playing him fairly tricky for me as I couldn't feel out the range of his Q like I usually do.

BUT WAIT! I have a solution... well actually. Riot does, their just not using it.

Also relatively recently, a UI change in the options menu left us with nice little "smart cast" toggle buttons below the skill keys. Which allows us to choose which skills we would like to automatically smart cast. However because of the nature of this system being a GLOBAL setting... The majority of players seem to have them all on, or all off to eliminate confusion. Or change them at the beginning of every game.

Riot has the ability to make these settings Champion Specific. If they just take the time to implement it. This would also allow them to create DEFAULT settings, which for characters like the mentioned above, can keep the same default settings. While still giving the champion designers the ability to implement proper targeting reticles for skills which still to this day, do not have.

PS; The Flash Summoner Spell is another interesting case which I feel should come to the same conclusion

TL;DR

Riot should make the new quick cast options menu champion specific to enable the ability to disable quick cast from champion skills which quick cast by default.

IE; Vayne's Tumble

This. I don't want to have to manually click on the UI bar and move my mouse all the way back out to be able to get a feel for the size of my skillshots :\

Just because not playing it on quick cast prevents me from using it 'easily' and quickly.. doesn't seem like a good reason. I STILL don't know how wide the skillshot is, I STILL don't know how long it is (just that it's a bit longer than E's range).

Personally, I find it not to be a problem since I get a feel for the range of a skill simply by using it a few times. I rarely ever actually rely on a range indicator. I also don't use the "smart cast keys" in the config, I use shift (Shift + Q, Shift + R, etc...)

I think being able to play well without relying on the range indicators is one of the things that makes players closer to those who are in the pro leagues. You have to be able to do these calculations in your head so it's more of a subconscious thing rather than a visual aid.

I would really rather them not do this to the champions that you stated. I currently do use smart cast, but I have it set to where if I hold down the key at all I see the range indicator on said ability. Putting this non smart cast on those specific abilities could affect the play style of many players. Imagine not having smart cast set on Riven's Broken Wings or Ahri's Spirit Rush. That would harm those lower levels that don't use smart cast and also those that don't use straight up smart cast as well (like in my own case).

Then each game that I would play said champion, say Ahri, I would have to go into the ESC menu and change my smart cast settings for that specific champion just to have the same play style as before these changes. Those that don't use smart cast won't be harmed and people that do regularly play those champions that do have auto-smart casted abilities already have a good feel for the abilities range.

All in all I think that this would do more harm to the abilities that need to be cast quickly with little thinking than it would help champions like Yasuo and his Q. If anything Yasuo's Q should be the only ability getting a change rather than every champion with an auto-smart cast abilty.

As for flash, I just don't see it being good to not have auto smart casted.

I agree with the idea to make quick casting champion specific because there are only a few champs I would ever use such a system with.

Now, I know that one could simply do the shift+ thing for various champs to accomplish this, but it's not very convenient for me to take my fingers off my abilities, move them down to the shift key, and then quick cast. That having been said, I tried to use my mouse as a hotkey for this, only to find that I couldn't set it to a mouse button and a keyboard key, or two letter keys at the same time. I realize this is a tad off topic, but I believe it's another point that Riot needs to look into because it would be so much easier for a player like me to be able to move the quick cast to, say, the T key (i.e. T+Q).

I don't understand why I cannot do this nor why I cannot do such a thing with a mouse.

I would love to hear an explanation for that.

(also, I hope Riot is seeing all of this)

I personally quick-cast always, with shift being used for self-quickcast. This includes items.

I guess the default is a little irrelevant, as long as the options are clear and easy to use.
