Well, there can only be an even or odd number of stairs, right? So the options available should have some pattern depending on that.
I recommend you write out all the possibilities for 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 stairs. I bet the pattern will show by then.
Ok. I've got it. It's a Pascal's triangle question. Look up Fibonacci numbers on wikipedia.
