Season 4 Ranking system is weird ?

Hello,

I just wanted to get an answer on something. Last year, I began playing ranked at the end of the Season. I had played rank, months or maybe a year ago and didn't like it so I stayed away from it. I think whatever loses I got stayed on my account so I never started fresh. So now i'm in Bronze Division, I ended Season 3 in Bronze 2 or 3.

Here's the issue...I start this new season, I won 5, lost 5 and I'm placed in Bronze 4 ? Did my previous rank affect me ? Also, how am I in a lower rank now ? Last season when I began at the end of the season, I think I got a worse score than 5W 5L to qualify and I got placed in Bronze 2 or 3 to start.

Someone else had commented on their rank/tier being a little funny as well. Could there be an issue or an explanation ? I'm still sorta new the ranked system and I've generally stayed away because of bad behavior from team mates, but it is fun to play (when you have people who are serious that is...)

Any advice or clarification on this would be nice thanks,

N

P.s. An idea: You know that "report player" at the end of the game, could you add "troll" to the list of things that can be reported for ? It would be helpful, maybe even useful to the system.

Yes your previous rank had an effect on your placements for this season. We didn't have a hard reset (in which everyone's mmr would be totally reset), instead we had what's called a soft reset applied to our mmr.

This means that when you did your placements for this season, you were going into them with an mmr around where you ended off last season instead of at whatever the starting mmr is for someone who has never done ranked before.

So there is that, and also another thing that determines gains/loss of mmr is dependent on your opponents' mmr. If they have a higher mmr and you win you will gain more mmr than normal. If you lose against higher mmr opponents then you will lose less mmr than normal. And vice versa.

So basically, yes your ranked status from last season affected the outcome of your placement series.
