Question about ranked placement matches.

When i first decided to play ranked, i did the 10 placement matches, I won 6 and lost 4 and was put into bronze 3 from that around march 2014. And now just today finally after 148 games from doing the promotion matches for silver 5 over and over because of bad games i get silver 5, out of bronze, and a lot of time spent into that, and I don't do that bad in my opinion. So I need an answer to this part. My wife who just now finished her last placement match with 3 wins and 7 losses got put into Silver 4. Honestly confused about the system hoping someone will explain.

Edit: I went back to my old posts and couldn't find a source to support this. It appears everyone does start at the same MMR in Ranked.

However:

Your placement will depend on exactly who you go up against. Winning a match where you're an underdog will give you more MMR gain.
The first few games you play may also matter more than the later ones. So going 0-5 and then 5-0 may place you lower than going 5-0 and then 0-5.

I honestly don't believe that, check out this guy i randomly found in the Silver 1 roster. trollosopher He won 7 of his placement matches and lost 3. But look at his champion stats.

To my understanding if you haven't played ranked it is supposed to be a predetermined MMR (Not normal MMR), Generally 5 wins 5 losses = Silver V placement, up to a maximum of silver 1 placement (for 10-0).

If you have played any rank in any previous seasons, there is only a soft recap on your MMR. Something like halfway between 1250 and your current MMR.

To respond to your actual question, I cannot explain how she was placed higher than you (Unless one of you has played ranked in a previous season?) Was there any duo queuing involved in the placements?

Edit: I went back to my old posts and couldn't find a source to support Riot giving you a dynamic starting MMR in Ranked if you've never played Ranked mode before. Sorry!

On the account you pointed out:

That account appears to be a smurf that played very few Normal SR games getting up to 30. Median MMR is low Silver, so if you haven't played many SR matches then going 5-5 will usually put you around S4 and more wins than that will be in high Silver or maybe G5 if you had a good starting MMR and won 9 or 10.

This is a direct comment from a lead league system designer saying that normal MMR is in no way connected to ranked MMR and you start off with a "clean slate" when starting ranked.

Not saying your absolutely wrong but do you have any evidence of what you said being true?

Hmm. I'm 99.9% certain I saw another dev post saying they do adjust your starting MMR. Because I used to think they didn't adjust it and then someone told me it did and posted a reference!

When I get home I'll find that post on the old forums. I'm also going to ask a friend of mine at Riot about this...

I went back and looked at my old posts, and I couldn't find anything official contradicting that Reddit post. So it looks like starting MMRs for Ranked play are fixed if you've never been in Ranked at all before.

What can still affect you:

exactly what opponents you go up against. Winning as an underdog gains more MMR, losing when you're favored loses more.
the first few games you play may matter more. So going 5-0 and then 0-5 may place you higher than going 0-5 and then 5-0.
Duoing with an established player may mess with your placements.

Just myself for placements, and i duo'ed with her for like half of the matches, but that trollosopher guy never played ranked last season.

And again, I'm not an expert in this but there are very large mmr changes in the placement matches, I wonder if it could be possible that duo'ing for half of them changed the skill of the opponents she faced changing the mmr gains dramatically (increasing gains, minimizing losses) or something of the sort.
