Friend going in for major cancer surgery

We have a very good in-game friend going in for explorative cancer surgery on the 15th of this month(Feb). We are not looking for hand-outs or free stuff, but any suggestions that anyone who has similar experienced that they did in-game or Who to contact at riot that may be able help do something out-of-the-ordinary for our friend. We are willing to do whatever we would need to help our friend who is scared and unsure of her future. Maybe we could start a campaign to stop the use of "cancer" for trivial matters in-game. But, we would rather focus on something positive that we could do rather than policing others in the name of someone who is so positive herself.

Thanks to anyone who read this all the way through or has any suggestions at all.

A million times this. People don't think about what certain words mean before they same them. I'm not really one to be PC, but how did such a life threatening illness become associated with pixels on a screen?

The word cancer is thrown a lot here on boards. I'm not too fond of the word's use for topics like "Yasuo is cancer", but that's just the way people like to express their opinions. I really hope your friend gets better, and enjoys her days before the surgery.

Cancer has multiple definitions...and I'm pretty sure the other ones were used well before people even knew what medical cancer was.

I hate cancer. It's so unfair and horrible to have your life ripped away. I'd rather have cancer a cure for cancer than any number of millions of dollars. None of my family in CA have had to deal with it, but others have.

Just an update:

We are leaning towards doing a kind of random rules tourney. We haven't figured out what the rules are yet. She will be really zonked after the surgery so, we want This make a tourney that would mess with everyone else though sorta level the playing field. Thanks for all the care and concern so far! Let's keep the good ideas coming!

My heart goes out to you and your friend and I hope all will go well. I know that this community can be mean however in cases like this I know that we will band together to support you and your friend.

"You have to fight through the bad times to earn some of the best days of your life."

To your friend I would like to tell them to not fret about the surgery. Trust in the doctors, stay calm and the procedure should go smoothly. My grandmother had cancer while I was very young she went through surgery and through our support and the great effort by the doctors she was able to have a successful surgery and is able to spend time with her grandchildren.

"Life is to short to fret about the storm of tomorrow, spend today doing what you enjoy and being with those you love."

Do not spend these few days before the surgery worrying. Do what you enjoy and love each of these few days to the most that you can. I suggest you stay calm and be happy.

I want to put myself out there and say if there is anything I can do within League to help make these few days some of the most happy days of your friends life I am up for it. Your friends positivity should be rewarded especially in this time and I hope that all will go well with the surgery.

We have come up with the first really solid plan so far!!!!!

We will all be using banana icons staring the 15th of this month to show solidarity for our friend! Her summoner name has banana in it and she is support main so we think it fits great!!!!

If anyone uses the banana icon on the 15th take a screen shot! We will be deciding where to send the screenshots this week. Any help spreading the word would be very much appreciated. THE 15th IS GONNA BE THE BANANARAMMA!

I'll start a new thread to post screen shots by next week!

We are not done brainstorming though!!!!! If anyone has any good ideas, we are still more than open to suggestions!!!!!!!

I know I'm late to the party, but I agree with you that using the word cancer or cancerous so lightly is a pretty terrible thing to do. Unfortunately, I can't think of any ways to help but I hope riot sees what you've got up here and works to stop the problem.

as someone whos dad dead of cancer and buried him on fathers days and whos grandfather passed of cancer just a few years before that and a great aunt... and so on i second this

Just an unpdate! I can seem to find a banana icon or ward skin! Was it a fever dream?! Maybe we can all use the power up icon to wish her well!!!! You know the pixelated star icon. We still haven't decided where to send the screen shots. So, if anyone is more adept at Reddit maybe we can do it there. Otherwise I was thinking of posting it on a new page but in these forums so she can go directly to link and see the support!!!!

The thought and concern is very much appreciated! It is my humble opinion that we should focus on a show of support that would focus on boosting the spirits of our friend. I'd like to steer the convo more to suggestions that would directly boost her spirits rather than seek to censor others. In other words, I'm not sure if policing others would make her happy. But, I am sure that a positive show of support to her directly would make her happy. Please understand that an open conversation about our language and how it affects people is always welcome. But, our time is short and we want to do something awesome for this person.
