Quick question about Hextech Crafting

I just rented my Scorched Earth Renekton skin shard for 7 days and when I noticed it disappeared from my inventory I got worried. So then I googled if I would lose the skin shard permanently and apparently yes. Can anyone clarify this for me? I hope not because the skin looks kinda cool and there wasn't any warning to tell me that I would lose it forever ,_,

Yes they should warn you about this but they don't. Renting it consumed the shard.
