Exposing the irritating "Riot Business Model"
Dear Riot,
If others have yet to figure out your business model, it's time to get the masses informed. I'm sure most of the players have realized by now that it seems like each and every time your company "reworks" or releases a champion it results in it being so incredibly overpowered that typically there's nearly no easy counter. The releases/reworks are so game damaging that it results in getting flamed if you don't ban the EXACT champions that are currently overpowered. Later, after "realizing" the champion is broken, your company takes it upon itself to "fix" said champion, but not before also reworking or releasing (within a month) a newly overpowered champion to deal with.
You guys, like myself, may be asking: "How does Riot seem to magically know how to balance each champion ONLY after 2 to 3 months after it's release/rework?"
That's a great question. The answer is that they already know what needs to be done to balance the champion BEFORE the rework/release, but releasing broken, overpowered champions is the exact business model that keeps them flourishing.
Releasing a broken champion means at LEAST two things:
- old players return after hearing "OMFG DUDE YOU GOTTA SEE THE NEW SKARNER. ITS OP AF LMFAO!"
- this results in more revenue $$
- existing players buy said OP champions and have temporarily increased fun
- this results in more revenue $$
- this results in keeping the playerbase for longer..... which also results in revenue $$
In other words, Riot only cares about the game being balanced up until it starts putting a damper on their pocket books. The mayhem that ensues with always having some sort of broken champion is well worth it considering the continual ensuring of profit being generated by it.
In other, OTHER words, Riot knows exactly what they are doing each and every time they play stupid.
Let's let RIOT know that we aren't digging this set up....at all.
