I know this will not be seen and will be downvoted to nothing, but I am going to say it anyway. The provisional matches are anti-fun.

I have been playing league for a long time and I never thought the match making was great, I mean lets face it. Elo (i know it is called MMR now, but it is just Elo by a different name) is a system for one vs one. With five on five, and all the other factors such as everyone having different skill levels with every champion, and some champions countering other champions etc., It makes it near impossible for Elo to be very accurate.

Over time match making has gotten better, for example, you used to be able to get matched with someone who was playing their first game of ranked ever, and that was usually a free loss for you. That doesn't happen now, normally, and that's great. I am happy for the small improvements that Riot makes, and we all live with the system how it is because this game is fun, and we want to have fun playing it. Although sometimes it can be frustrating and the ranked reset is the most frustrating of all.

Provisional matches are a joke. They are 100% luck based. They take this flawed but somewhat functional system and shake it until it is broken. The skill levels of players vary insanely wildly, much more so than during the regular season and the games are extremely frustrating when you keep rolling the dice and getting two and threes for allies, if they even connect to the game at all.

I ended last season in gold, and this season was placed in bronze 3. In and of itself that is frustrating, but of course I am going to keep playing because this game is awesomely fun when you get good games going. The problem is it is going to be hard to do that in bronze. It will be frustrating to lose games because the team is so heavy, and it's going to be frustrating for the other team when I am able to carry games because I don't belong in bronze. So now whoever just lost to me, is causing even more noise in the system. Maybe he was a silver player that got stuck in bronze in the placement, and just lost to a gold in bronze and so on. As you can see, not only are the provisional games anti-fun, but they cause ripples of anti-fun to go through the entire ranked season for months to come. And once it is all sorted out, it is just in time for a new season to start.

I know posting something like this opens me up to people looking at my matches and telling me I am bad and so on, and that is fine if you want to do that but let me make two points about that. Firstly, its hard to do well when your team is feeding as hard as they can, or one of your players don't show up for the game, or someone has lag and just runs into the other team over and over. Secondly, I know that I am not a pro player, but I also know that I am not a bronze player.

Lastly I would to submit one last bit of information. I have two accounts in ranked, this is my main one. Last season the both ended in gold. During last seasons reset one account was placed in mid silver, the other in mid gold. This season this account is placed in mid bronze, and I haven't done the provisional games on the other account yet. One hundred percent luck based.

Good luck on your games everyone, because luck is the most important factor. I sure hope yours don't go nearly as bad as mine did.

I thought OP's case was a little extreme so I took a look at your lolking

You've been sitting @ G5 0LP for a looong time, that meant your MMR dropped way below gold already. Your first placement was already vs S2-3 people, which you lost, and the you kept losing vs S3-4 people, then S4-5 people...

Personally im thinking very strongly of quitting, after 500+ games to get from bronze 5 to silver 4 ( i was in silver 4 8 times recently never breaking out .. D: ) I found myself with afk teamates and rage quitters in my provisionals , I managed to go 5-5 which placed me in ..... BRONZE 5 ! I am not going through the effort of grinding myself back to silver 4 or higher to play some ''quality'' games.

Frankly I dont feel like getting trolled in bronze.

I got 50% win rate and went down 6 leagues come on , I dont like the game THIS much

I know the feeling. Been playing since Beta.Gold 5 to Bronze 2. Afk'ers, people literally Afk as we are trying to win the game, feeders, and just general trolls. Who ever thought it was a good idea to reset MMR so bronze players could play with silver and gold players are not smart people. Just plain and simple luck in 10 matches. Days like today make me even regret playing this game or wasting my money.

I didn't get hammered that hard, but the last 2 days have been the worst experience then anything all last year. I've been trolled so hard its really burned me off ranked for atleast a week.

Riot really shit the bed this season, this is the worst i ever remember league being since the beginning, in reference to match making.

I totally feel you man. I ended in Silver 3, and got 4/6 in provisionals. Sadly I had the luck to get 4 AFK's and one DC during my matches. I completely expected to get low Bronze (I just got Bronze 5)

And I am totally ok with this because I am more than confident I can carry myself out of that League. However the real issue is when you get constant AFKer's, and/or people that simply refuse to work together despite how well you're doing. The lack of communication in lower ELO's is pretty appalling. Sadly it is fairly luck-based, and a major flaw is 'dodging', I don't mind people that do it, but if you get blatant trolls or outright people threatening to feed/AFK, if you dodge, you're the one that gets penalized with absurd wait times.

Now I understand there may or may not be any real practical way of dealing with this, but these placement systems, reporting system is extremely flawed and in major need of re-working, along with HEAVY feedback from the community to help Riot create an overall better ranked experience.

Yeah, provisionals are just pure chaos. My first 5 games generated at least 8 "wait how the fuck could that even happen" stories, cait losing lane to vayne being the least of them. I think the ranked reset could come before provisionals, would make them play a bit better.

So after a lot of throws (typical example: you jungle and dominate the game for 20 minutes but then your fed Sivir, Leb, and Quinn just want to play assassin and get murdered 1v4 all lategame) I go from Plat 5 to Silver 5. Which seems to just be more of the same. Heck of a lot less fun now that I can't actually use any sort of teamwork because the other 4 will just stand around with their fingers in their noses (RIP zzrot portal), but it is fun trying to climb in silver, or at least keep a positive score in spite of your 2/16 sivir and 4/13 ali.

So yeah Riot kinda screwed up by letting our ranks be determined by absolute chaos (it really says something that the enemy team complains in all-chat about having to deal with a plat jungler as silver players, but we still eventually lose because our twitch just... I don't even know what he did but he managed to die any time anything was about to happen lategame), but I'll roll with it because silver is surprisingly enjoyable. If you want actual good games, just get your norms MMR up to diamond levels.

Riot basically assumes if you are "generally" more skilled than your current rating, you can win 2/3 or 3/5 and call it a day.

League of Legends is a TEAM game.

Solo carrying is EXTREMELY stressful to do and Riot continutes to promote base on SELF SKILL, but this is 5 v 5 not 1 v 5. There's no Team SoloMe. There's no Team Dyrus.

This is a team game. Riot needs to understand.

I'm not even done with my provisional games and I just want it to go ahead and stick me in B5 so I can be done with them. I am 1 for 7 so far. I'm not pro, but I am better than these matches are showing. I have had the worst luck so far with ridiculous teams. My first I was on a ridiculous team that rofl-stomped, but have hence been the stompee. No afkers, but hard feeding and rage have just choked my teams down hard. There's always been two people on the team that do well and everyone else feeds. I just want the pain to end so I can claw my way back to silver...I wish my personal performance played a bigger role in my seeding other than my ability to hard carry.

I agree. Last season I ended at diamond three. I started off this season by losing six ranked games in a row, and honestly while I did feel like I made mistakes, they were minor. I know it is said all the time, but the teammates I was playing with were a mixture of flamers, afkers and just not as skilled (although there was always one or two each game who were pleasant and trying their best).

Anyway, I managed to pick up only three wins in my placements, so I was fully expecting to be in gold. To my surprise, I was placed in platinum four, so In a way you could say that the luck has levelled out for me.

The more I think about it, the only reason I can think of resetting ranked is for allowing the best players to get the best spots in challenger so that the top ten arent occupied by the same people over and over.

I totally agree, season 4 I went 5-5 and got in Silver 4, I went 5-5 again just now and got put in Bronze 1. I know I have not gotten worse, far from it, I'm way better than I was last year. The system makes no sense. Why would I get essentially demoted for as neutral a score you can have?

I went 5-5 in my provisionals and ended up Silver 3 (Ended the season Gold 5) , I broke even so I should have been at least Silver 1 or 2.

I went 6-4 in provisionals and got bronze 3. I know I don't belong in bronze, but whatever. If I deserve to get out of bronze I will do, and I'll get back up to silver. I started playing in last season and I got 6-4 then, which put me in S2, so I don'tknow what went on this time, but apparently it wasn't a good thing D: Ah well. I just look at it as I have an entire year to learn, develop, carry and climb and I'm thankful that I'm not just perma-stuck in there. I know I can't win every game or carry every game, but it'd be a damn shame if I stopped trying.

I no longer play ranked because placements have a massive impact and are largely random.

I hover around high silver, but in S3 I was suddenly bronze 3 thanks to a few intentional feeders and afkers during placements. Bronze 3 was incredibly easy and I went on a massive win streak ended by an afker in promos, but the grind would be so long that I just gave up.

Yes, losing a bunch of placement games because someone gets mad and intentionally feeds is more important than winning 11 fucking games in a row with monster scores directly after your placements.

Well i just had 2 of my first ever provisional matches and my team fucked it up big time for me it has made me so mad how i get put in a team with a jungler that instead of gank he feed and he ruin my lane then obviously it is all my fault come on my lane my fault always to yeah thanks riot for fucking up my matches!

I ended in Silver II, I've gone 4/2 inplacements thus far. I'll accept one more loss, and I'm pretty confident that I'll end up in Bronze or low Silver. BEcause well, first two games I get an "ADC main" who picks Jinx and does nothing but feed vs. a Lucian/Braum. Second game I go Draven with my DuoQ BRaum botlane. Our midlane Malzahar feeds Morgana mid, Irelia looses to GP and Twitch who I dominated botlane get's fed.

I don't understand how an Irelia can possibly loose to a Frozen Fist/Statikk Shiv GP, but that's something.

I've been playing League on and off since 2010, but never got into ranked. I decided I wanted to this season, but I'm a little discouraged after so many threads like this. Also, I'm not sure how seeding and whatnot will affect me since I've never played ranked. Will I automatically start Bronze V or if I do well could I start higher?

I agree!! Last season I had 6 games with afks. How can I possibly do well in placemenys like that? I'm so scared to play my prelims this year

yeah I do get sick of having to climb from plat 1 to diamond 2/1 every season. Thats like 20-50 games of just bullshit I deal with because of the system and thats if I even win every game.

We're all climbing is its possible to get stuck with that d5 0LP team when you're against people you used to play with regularly who shit on all your allies and then are like "lol sorry bro, see ya when you get there" after the game. I had that happen last season and this season. Its discouraging to have to do it. I'd like to just play my placements and at the very least get diamond 3.

In both of my losses I had incredibly subpar teammates atleast at their roles.

One loss I had a jungler die in the jungle and proceeds to go 2/10 the rest of the game and ended up lower level than our support.

Second loss I had an ADC who walks right into thresh/lucian at level 1, and no I dont mean just "bad positioning" I mean WALKED RIGHT into them. After lucian has 3 kills, this ADC comes back to lane and pings to ALL IN a way ahead ADC which demonstrates complete lack of understanding of how LoL works.

So yes, I would wait a while to do placements because its a 100% luck based crapshoot atm.

idk bout u guys but i went from gold 5 to gold 1. 9/1 in provisionals. play better yo ! i played a strong game every game i played also in champ select i just ask everyone nicely to try hard and that ill fill and every time i do that i win dont be greedy and go for your main role.

I was hovering between Bronze V and IV last season. I went 8-2 in my promos. Still fucking Bronze V. I get it that I wouldn't be very high up, but it's pretty fucking distressing that all the improvements I thought I made by looking at my stats where nothing and that I'm still at the lowest of the low. Maybe I'm better than some of the other people here but it doesn't matter because I'm not even allowed to see where I am. Worst part is not even understanding the system that decided to put me here because they don't want to show us why for seemingly no reason.

I'm going to be playing on a smurf, maybe when I initially got myself placed in Bronze V I fucked myself. God I really don't want to have to grind to 30, though.

I got stuck in b5 from s5, going 2-8. Score sucks, but games are a total crapshoot, only two of those losses were from skill based games. The other 6 had every lane feeding and no grouping. I'm not claiming that I couldn't have done more, I was playing like shit during my provisionals, could have done a lot better. But there needs to be some way to evaluate skill on an individual level. In a lot of my games while playing jungler, I would go something like 8-1 until around 20 minutes, at which point my team refuses to group and their team does.

I know in my case, i'll have a hell of a hard time climbing out of bronze. I've strapped my tryhard gloves on and shelved all my favorite champions, brought Fiora off the shelf for the season and I'll be picking up every pick or ban retard check snowball champ I don't already have.
