Is It Okay To Not Take Flash?

Okay so I generally do not take flash as it causes more problems for me than helping me (9/10 times i end up in a wall or in their whole team, its bad, I know Ive practiced with it enough and it doesnt help) , I generally take heal instead and take the most common summoner spell for the role im playing in addition. (tp top, ignite mid, smite jng, ect) However I keep getting kicked from queue because I do not take flash.

What do you guys think, is it okay to not take flash?

Eh. If you do anything off-meta, the meta enforcers (yes, they exist. Weird.) will report you for the smallest thing. Say one curse word because you died? Reported. Told someone they made a mistake and suggest something to help them? Reported for harassment.

Flash is undeniably one of the strongest spells, but you shouldn't have to take it. Competitively, however, you might want to just in case. People are real crazy about "meta," even if you personally aren't getting as much use out of flash like others would.

If you're flashing into walls a lot you need to practice walking right up to the wall first.

If you flashing into the enemy for no reason, you need to just try being less reckless.

Flash is generally accepted as the most powerful summoner spell. You're going to want to learn how to take advantage of it. (not all champions take it by default though, but that's rare)

Why wouldn't you take him?

I rarely see people not take it, besides the failed flash its a great escape.

Generally i don't take flash on my supports. I main supp / adc / mid. Here's my main goals in spells.

ADC summoner 4 summoner 7 / / summoner 7 summoner 21 SUPP summoner 13 summoner 7 MID summoner 3 summoner 14 / / summoner 12 summoner 14 TOP summoner 12 summoner 7 / / summoner 12 summoner 14 JUNG summoner 11 summoner 14 / / summoner 4 summoner 11

As a variation if people are still complaining if you take that, and they won't leave you alone about flash. Take summoner 6 it gets you farther than flash anyways.

Flash is good because:

  1. It's really flexible. You can use it both to attack and escape, or to juke skillshots. It's generally useful whether you're ahead or behind.

  2. It gives you an ability that very few champions have in their kit, and that complements many kits well.

  3. It's a pretty strong ability. If used well, it's likely to either secure a kill or prevent a death most times it's used.

Flash is bad because:

  1. It has a crazy long cooldown. If you use it poorly, you've wasted a 5-minute cooldown. Even if you use it well (like to escape a gank where you otherwise would have died), you're without any extra mobility for 5 minutes.

  2. It's not all-powerful, and people tend to overrate it somewhat IMO. Unless you flash under a tower or over a wall, someone with Ghost can catch up to you easily. Sometimes the global pressure from Teleport is more useful overall.

  3. Champions that have a lot of mobility already may not benefit as much from it.

However, if you're not taking a mobility summoner spell (Flash/Teleport/Ghost), you might be putting yourself at a substantial disadvantage on low-mobility champs. If you're going to take heal/ignite or barrier/ignite mid, you'd better be pretty confident you can crush that lane early. If you fall behind or the jungler pitches a tent in midlane, you're at a significant disadvantage. If you run heal/smite in the jungle, your ganks on most champs are a lot easier to escape from, and people may assume you're not going to gank for them.

Flash isn't required, technically, but using it is definitely helpful. The only times I would agree with not using it is when you have mobility on your champion (Gnar, Tristana, Corki, etc.), and have a specific summoner that would help more. Normally, the only times you give up Flash is for Smite, using a Runeglaive (mid), Devourer (ADC), or Cinderhulk (top) build (I also used to mess around with Smite/TP JG Hecarim). This is an uncommon thing to do and Flash is still the best summoner in the game. Just keep practicing Flashing and you'll get the hang of it.
