Hey guys I just wanna ask a fast question and see if any of the community had any views on this. So I'm a silver player I have been playing since season 2 and I just wanna ask since my friend and I made our smurf accounts I have notice that playing vs low lvl people I have had more trouble is it because I'm use to playing with people who know the game? Also I was speaking with someone who was starting the game new never have played before and he was telling me that smurf accounts are destroying the game for new players they expect to be placed with people on there skill lvl then get walked all over and makes them not want to play cause they feel like they are missing something or just have not caught on onto things witch make them not want to play anymore. To finish this off I feel riot teaches people the game wrong by not giving smite tell lvl 10 it tells them that 2 go top 1 mid and 2 bot I jist must feel like it's setting them up for more confusion...

Smurfs do hurt new players, but not necessarily inherently. Its just that a lot of smurfs were created for less than noble reasons. A lot of smurfs are players who are banned on their mains so they are disproportionately toxic. Another big reason people make smurfs is because they get frustrated with their own play and they want to stomp people.

Smurfs actually get separated out in matchmaking pretty quick since they win a massively disproportionate amount of their games.

They don't directly hurt them. I have a smurf, and I offer friendly tips. It's the attitudes of most of the smurfs that do the damage. Even at level 3-4 you would have 3-4 smurfs out of 5 on a team.

i played leveling up against smurfs, that's how I started and it made me a better player personally. However I also had friends who were smurfs i was playing with. it probably does hurt new players because who wants to play a game where they always lose themselves even if their team wins

Smurfs can be good or bad, depends on the nature of the player sadly most people smurfing choose to be complete douchebags. being a smurf is fine if you offer people legitimate help or encouragement otherwise i feel like you should just be quiet and remember that these newbies are NEW players and dont have the same amount of experience as you. as far as no smite till lvl 10 i feel like having smite that early would be overwhelming, on top of the fact that they probably wouldnt have the runes to survive the jungle very well even if someone coached them through the jungle

Smurfs in LoL are a weird area.

On one hand, they can help new players learn the game through coaching and friendship. They can also, at times, help players improve by playing against players who are technically better than they are.

On the other hand, they can really mess with the game. All it takes is a smurf on a snowball carry champion to really stack the deck in favor of one team. Some smurfs may also be the product of toxic players being banned on old accounts, so they force these un-fun players into the lower elos for a while. There are also some smurfs that just play against less experienced players to boost their own egos.

I imagine it is a difficult issue to work around from Riot's standpoint. How do you identify them? What actions can you take against them? Is a "remedy" even needed?

The only reason I would make a smurf (and i do have a smurf level 10) is to learn a new role and only go that role. Sucks that you have to get lv 25 for TeamBuilder

Smurfs help the new players get adjusted to the meta, how you should play the game, and how not to play the game. Granted it does take a long time to get good at LoL, the new players aren't stupid, they will see that 40/8/3 Akali and know that she is a strong champion, they will see that they have a Nasus who destroys assassins. I think smurf players teach the new players how they should play the game and why things are the way they are. Smurfs bring a higher level of play to their games, making them consistently try to beat and learn how to play against these more experienced players.

Smurfs are nearly always bad. Many people say they are nice and offer helpful tips and don't flame noobs, but it's still a heavy imbalance in a game that people, after just joining, probably want to be equal. Somebody could be the nicest smurf in the world, but they still are a smurf who has extraordinarily large amounts of knowledge compared to these new players. Even if they don't actually notice the smurfs being there, they will certainly notice their generally bad scores and think that they can't ever get better, because their enemies are just more knowledgeable.
