People Need to Stop Giving Riot Such a Hard Time

Come on guys. People need to give Riot a break. They make a phenomenal game that we all want to play. They deliver new content regularly. They have balanced champions with new and unique abilities. They listen to the community and provide bug fixes, accurate tool tips, and new and inspiring character loading screen art.

And they do ALL of this at no profit whatsoever! They do it for the little guys. They do it for you and me.

I don't understand why people rage about the unplayable servers. The constant ping issues as players in far-flung reaches of Europe or the United states play with a standard 60 more ping than players closer to the server base. And who even remembers the last time you played a full day of ranked without a "Loss Prevented". But all of these things are just necessary evils if you really think about it. None of us give riot any money whatsoever, so who are we to demand a game that plays with any semblance of consistency?

Never mind that most of us have multiple skins for every champion we love. Never mind that many of these skins cost upwards of $5 per. Never mind that it costs almost that much to buy a rune page or a name change or a server change should you want to play on one that doesn't give half the player base an unfair advantage. Never mind that I, and many others like me, have spent more money on this game than any other game I have ever played five times over. How can we as a player base expect anything to get fixed if Riot is clearly not making any money on in game purchases, conventions, or esports?

We need to stop being so selfish and just stop playing. The only way to make the servers run better is to uninstall, stop buying RP, stop referring our friends, and stop being genuinely excited to have a terrible experience. If Riot doesn't want to host so many people on their servers or respond to pleas for fixes from an annoying and ever increasing player base, we should give them what they want and stay away. At least then some players may be able to access the game they continue to pay for in a way that is enjoyable.

Can't really tell if your trying to be sarcastic or not, but i'll just post my opinion :)

We give riot way to much trouble. When I see a rioter on the forums getting downvoted, it makes me feel really sorry for them. They have put alot of work into LoL, some of it unnecessary, just for us.

Here are some examples of riot going to extra mile for us:

  • They listen to us Although they sometimes fail to comunicate they still listen to us. They also put up with the hate that we give them.

  • Nighthunter Rengar They gave him a usable hood

  • Lee Sin They un-canceled him

  • LoL is free Self explanatory

  • Cinematics They don't have to make these for us

  • Esports They put alot of work into making these tournys happen

  • Lore Even some people don't like the direction riot is taking this, we still should give them credit for trying

And im pretty sure there's more that I can't think of at the moment.

Riot has given us a free to play and win game that they maintain almost 24/7. I think we should give them a break and be patient while they try to fix problems (if they even can).

Also they are still a company, this is the real world, and they still need to make some kind of profit.

They HAVE to listen to us, sure you can argue that they don't but ultimately if what they choose to do genuinely leaves the players unsatisfied then they lose their customers and basically commit company suicide. If they want a successful game they have to listen to their customers just like any good business does, you can't just say f*** off to your customers and expect your company to succeed.

Do they always listen though? No, and sometimes they do things that can be extremely irritating. For example, 5 days ago on these forums they made this post of the day, and sparked a discussion. After the first day they stopped participating in the discussion even though it continued with many great ideas after they stopped replying. Maybe part of the problem is you can't see who upvoted/downvoted, because if you get upvoted by a Riot member it would at least give the impression that they read the feedback and liked it but right now you have no idea unless they directly reply. That being said if Riot is going to spark discussions they should at least continue to participate in them and not just start a fire then walk away. Now this may be an outlier but that still doesn't excuse it.

You're right they don't have to, but it's also good advertising/marketing so they aren't always making these for "us" so to speak. It's mutually beneficial.

I mean... we are giving them credit aren't we? We fully acknowledge that this is "the direction" that Riot chose and we either hate it/don't care/love it. Either way we are giving them the credit we feel they deserve whether or not it's good or bad.

Also they are still a company, this is the real world, and they still need to make some kind of profit.

And finally... yes they need to make a profit but the means of business is important. If they make money by killing kittens while still producing a good game that doesn't mean what they're doing is right. Obviously they aren't killing kittens but to justify a good business doing a bad thing because "profit" is not a good perspective to have.

Also as far as how I think of Riot, I respect them tremendously but I don't agree with putting them up on this pedestal where they are better than us and shouldn't be questioned or given any feedback. They have tons of fans; I'm one of them. I've spent a lot of money and time on this game but I also know they make mistakes and that's what feedback is for it's to let them know so they can take the game in a good direction that we can all continue to play and enjoy.

Umm, they make a lot of money off of this game or their studio would have folded by now. They just don't require you to pay. There's a difference.
