Harassment, and toxic player behavior are topics that, not only League of Legends deals with, but many competitive games deal with. Light keeps being shed on this behavior, and honestly I am disappointed in myself, and the community as whole. There are plenty of articles that blast this behavior, but don't actually offer any solutions to the poor behavior that plagues gaming as a whole. While I can not do much as one single person to fix this behavior, except for better myself, and report when needed. There are some ideas here that I think would be a valuable resource.

This is one particular video I found on one of my favorite YouTube channels that directly addresses this issues and offers some good ideas.

First Idea:

Auto-mute - This basically takes recorded metrics of how often someone is muted and takes the most muted players, and auto mute them at the beginning of the game. This could be turned off over time if for simple suspension method.

Earning Chat Rights - I don't recommend this one actually since it punishes even good players, but it could be an option if it's necessary. Basically users have to earn the right to chat. After a certain amount of games the player would be open to freely chat. This is to prevent users from just creating a new account to spew verbal garbage.

League of Legends is one of the PvP games on the forefront of re-shaping player behavior to turn it into positive behavior. I don't know exactly how riot monitors user activity, and the tribunal is far from perfect, but these are options that don't take up a lot of manpower to add to the game.

I really do hope that Riot does take it's time to actively look at this and possibly get practical tools that could offer insight to better player behavior, and turn the bullies into more sportsmanlike players. If not, it could help shield players from the verbal bile spewed by other players in the game.
