In practice, at least late-game, this doesn't really work, because Karthus builds way more AP than Soraka does. I know, I've done this exact same thing as Karthus. She ult'd when I did (she did like four times before, too, as well she should, but that loses all its effectiveness as the game goes on), and I still quadra'd as Karthus during a teamfight. Her ult didn't save anyone who was running back to their Nexus. The only person I didn't kill was already slain.
Can't take credit for the whole thing, obviously--I didn't one-shot the whole team--but it's true she just can't late-game AP scale the way ol' Karthus does. Boom.

Except Soraka R has pitiful base heal and she's always starved for items because she's support.
