Molecular degeneration of DNA starts as soon as cells start replicating, so really you've been dying since you were conceived. The process of copying a DNA strand causes the last few nucleotides to not be copied, as the enzyme doing the copying needs to hang onto something. Fortunately, we have many spare, throw-away sections at the ends of our DNA, and this process only happens when cells multiply. But eventually we would start losing the actual important bits.

Granted, most of our DNA is only activated once, usually while developing and growing up, so once you hit 25 or so you don't need as much of it anyway.

I mean, really, it all depends on what you consider the ultimate cause of death. Technically our body slowly oxidizes, so breathing could eventually kill us. We could lose important genetic information, or our DNA could become corrupted and cause cancer, which is often quite deadly. Brain cells die off pretty much as soon as we are born, and losing enough of those will surely result in death.

Buuuttttt, the momment your body is capable of metabolising it already has to deal with Free Radicals. Which are just uncharged short lived molocules. Hense the craze of eating antioxidents. These free radicals are toxic and harmful to the body. But for the most part between nutrition and our bodies natural ability to repair. It doesnt have a noticiable effect earlier on. At least not at a younger age, but nonetheless the outside world is poisioning you at a molecular level. Though thankfully , we can fight against it. Or, maybe Karthas is a deeper more intellectual individual...Maybe he isnt talking about death from a physical persepctive. Maybe Karthas is referring to our innosence we are born with. Our out look on life from the start is innocent and pure. But with every momment that passes and every thing the world throws at us our innosence becomes perverted and changed. Our once happy carefree selves are slowly killed inside while we come to realize the evils in the world. We become Fearful of trying new things or we start to distrust others, we work at desk jobs that drain our souls and we live day after days like living Zombies just getting by. A person with no will to live isnt really alive.

Depends on how one constructs and defines certain things. You've segregated growth/development and death/degradation, which is fine, but not a necessary distinction to make.
