You are thinking of the nation called "United States of America" which comprises of a unity of 50 states to form one nation upon the landmass known as North America. The united state is not America, but only one nation in a group of three nations which inhabit half of the American landmasses. The other half being South America located to the south.

Second: "America" actually does refer to a nation. "The Americas" refers to the area of the western hemisphere that is also known as "The New World". It is just like how "The People's Republic of China" is shortened to "China", "The Untied States of America" is shortened to "America".
The Americas = Area that encompasses the continents of North America and South America America = Shortened version of "The United States of America"

HexaDecimel5 votesIts true our summers are short, and sometimes it drops to -30 C. But it is so beautiful up here, plenty of winter sports and wonderful summers. Less crowded, friendlier, and more wild :p
Also I am already conditioned for the north and overheat easily in the hotter states. I could show you but the pics would probably get taken down :p

Example: Diana I believe is Freljordian and may be related to Ashe and Sejuani because of their hair color (granted I'm going off of how the only white haired people in the freljord we've seen are those two and Diana's parents were from a barbarian tribe I believe).
