When people can lose the Olympics with more grace than LoL players can lose lane

New Zealand runner Nikki Hamblin tripped, and knocked over American runner Abbey D'Agostino. But Abbey helped Nikki up, and made sure they both crossed the finish line. http://a3.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2016%2F0816%2Fr114457_1296x729_16-9.jpg&w=570

Meanwhile, if the jungler dies to the enemy mid, the ally mid laner is like: https://media.giphy.com/media/Mir5fnHxvXrTa/giphy.gif

All of the worst dregs of humanity, the scum, the rejected, the unstable, and the insane were dragged together.

And they formed a community of gamers, called League of Legends players.

That is a pretty optimistic viewpoint on the League community. http://66.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m0jxjrrZD11qdjhv0o1_r1_500.gif

Guys, I really hate to interrupt, but I need advise. This group has this giant janga/card castle they spent 24 posts- I mean hours building, and I wanna touch it. Should I touch it? I'm gonna touch it...

I sexually identify as a horny lizard and if you say that's not a gender, then you're oppressing me.

Nasus OH DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON OPPRESSION. Freakin' lizards...

Its not gender specific enough to be considered a gender on its own.

Well in real life, if millions of people were watching you and somehow you tripped someone (or vice versa), you would want to be professional about it ... because if you act toxic in public, there will be consequences and you'll make your country look bad. Meanwhile on League, there really aren't any consequences and because it's all in a virtual video game, people hardly feel they're being judged. Sure you might get punished by the League system, but it doesn't do much of anything else to you as a person. But I totally agree with the OP regardless, people on games tend to be way more toxic.

One would think, but there have been some pretty disgraceful people this year. Just to name a few:

  • There was El Shehaby, the Egyptian who refused to shake the hand of his Israeli opponent.
  • Hope Solo, the American Soccer player who called the Swedish "cowards" when they beat her, and went on about how "the best team did not win".
  • Joud Fahmy, the Saudi Arabia judoka who forfeit a match to avoid the Israeli combatant.
  • Michael Conlan, the Irish boxer who flipped off the judges and said Putin paid them off after he lost to the Russian boxer.
  • And Ibtihaj Muhammad, the American fencer who has been trash talking her own country since she got there.

This is part of why it is so important to focus on the honorable people like Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D'Agostino. Just because there are a few unsportsmanlike individuals doesn't change that there are some truly respect worthy people competing.

Ah, I feel honored that the famous Laughing Fish has replied to my comment ^_^. Also you're right, even in real life there are those who're so toxic they don't care about their reputation and some of the athletic people do care about others because they're kind hearted. Sorry if I seemed like I was being pessimistic, was just food for thought really.

Good examples, I see why people like you around here!

At the end of the day, people are people. If you choose to be a good person, you will be a good person. And if you choose to be an asshole, you will be an asshole.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I see you commenting something serious. Good one though.
