At least it's not like the other "free" games where you need real money to obtain clearly overpowered weapons, half the time of which are only 30 day rentals, and even worse, dumbass "energy" systems where you can only play a certain number of games each day before you have to pony up, these microtransactions are disgusting. League gets people to spend money by creating high-quality skins that people love, not by artificially locking away parts of the game.

League is definitely one of the most well executed free-to-play models in the industry, probably the reason why it's far and away the most popular (and profitable) game in the world. Good on them.

Exactly. Riot doesn't make it where you have to spend money, they make it where you want to spend money. Because of this you never feel cheated when you buy something. It is always satisfying. Which as you said is why League makes such an insane amount of profit.

Honestly Battlecast Vel'koz is better than Arclight IMO. The only thing Arclight has going for it over battlecast is the sound effects on his abilities.

Arclight's model looks ugly IMO.

And the total cost of all champions and runes and rune pages available right now with just IP totals to more than 1 million IP. Do I need it all? Of course not. But do I need more than is reasonable for me to buy with just IP despite playing quit a lot for quite a while now to be competitive in ranked? Absolutely. So either I have to spend $$ or I have to play at a disadvantage. Seeing as I'm broke as hell right now I play at a disadvantage and it sucks.

im playing with just 2 rune pages and i'm doing just fine as long as you have the standard rune pages you should be fine

Except there is no actual standard 2. At the very least you need 3: AD, AP, and tank. And your definition of doing just fine is clearly not the same as mine. I looked up yours and they aren't what I'd consider standard anyways, especially the AD one.

This has to be a joke. Tank Rune Page What are you going to use Armor quints? what a joke. Just take ad or ap for your standard runes and let your build get you tanky. Tank runes would probably get you like 10 bonus armor and magic resist which isn't that much late game. When the carries have lw or voidstaff or some other pentration.

You're completely dismissing tank rune pages?! That's absurd. Tank runes can get you a lot more than 10 armor and mr and are often very useful in lane in addition to providing tankyness later, especially from scaling runes. In particular scaling hp seals are essential on several champions who are not only tanks but have abilities that scale with hp.

With just 2 pages you're also leaving no room for move speed quint pages, cdr pages, and hybrid pages. I'm also personally a big fan of mana regen seals. And of course there's attack speed quint + ad mark pages for adcs as opposed to ad quint + either ad or armor pen marks for champion's like Gangplank and Jayce.

2 rune pages are not remotely enough and massively stifles what champions you can reasonably play.

I can play Yasuo, Tf, Vayne. Varus, Any support except nami, Orianna, Rumble, and a few more champs with just a standard Ad rune page and a Standard AP runepage at a decent level.

Again, YOUR definition of decent level is clearly not the same as mine. I just looked at the runes of all 10 players in a recent game and no two players had the same runes. Two of them (the supports) had triple armor quints. All 10 had at least 9 defensive non quint runes.

That was a pro game (from the LCK finals). I'm aware that most players don't need to have as perfect of rune pages as the pros, but I'm asking you (and Riot really) to respect that there are many of us who reasonably need a lot more than 2 rune pages because we care about climbing in ranked play.

WEll rune pages already cost ip so i don't know what you want them to do. You can already get them for ip. I guess they could remove the ability to get it with rp, but runes really only affect the early game. Late game their effect is minimal compared to what a full build of items does.

Rune pages could cost less IP.

Runes can very much affect the late game. Not only are there scaling runes but some things naturally scale in power with game time as well such as CDR. The impact runes have on the early game can greatly affect how (or even if) you get to a late game. An early kill because of early game focused runes can lead to an advantage you snowball to victory.

Just looked up multiple good guides on Devourer Kayle. The runes I need to follow any of the remotely good guides that I don't already own cost a total of 7,380 IP. And if I don't want to replace a rune page I already have (because I use them all) to put those runes in that's another 6300 IP.

Kayle herself costs 450 IP (though yes I already have her), more than you get from one win even with the first win of the day bonus. In fact even if you average 100 IP a game (more than I'm pretty sure the actual average is even if you win every game, but not by a lot) it'd take you 3 game wins even with the 150 from the first win of the day bonus just to buy Kayle.

It is not exactly that with the need of buying champions frankly. That is legitimate and done in a sensful way! Don' t get me wrong.

... but i really hope that one day they will do so much skins and other stuff ( like first strike) that it will really become their main source of income, so they can make free all champions that cost at least 450 and 1350 IP. i have already got all of these, but for a new player it can be exausting to get everything, or to get even a kickstarter that you like.

But its not as bad about throwing "you need money to be better" like other games. Skins give you a connection to a champ but dont make you better.

They've been slowly removing every cute mechanic in this game from the ninja debuffs to the pirate buffs and scurvy passive. Its only a matter of time before they get rid of this too with no good reason for it.

I also spent 0$ on League so far. I just don't see the reason to buy skins. Now, ultimates are cool and I do want to buy those, but even some of the Legendaries don't seem worth it. I understand the reasons and such, but its not like I have someone telling me, skins are worth it. When I ask, people say they don't do nothing but change the look. Its better to just buy the champion than the skin.

It's free to play tho, with no bullshit micro-transactions (hell, runes which are needed for competitive level are only bought with IP). Anything can be earned for free, and it's more "pay to have more things faster that you could get for free" than "free to play, pay to win" that some mmo's do.
