I have always just left the game sound on, as playing with the sound off or obscured it an extremely large disadvantage.
Noticing you are lv15, you may want to keep that in mind as you advance into more competitive games. A lot of global abilities have sounds, like kled, sion ults, and being able to hear pings and abilities is very important, unless you want to get oneshot out of nowhere.
