Lol when AurelionSol was originally released I used Dr. Manhattan as an example of why I didn't like him. i feel like both of them are the same ole boring and cheap type of character in lore.

Gonna have to second this. I think a lot of people get hung up with his powers/being basically God, to the point that they miss his actual CHARACTER. To me he's the best character out of Watchmen.

As for Aurelion Sol, I dunno...I still like him. Manhattan has a distinct lack of ego. When he says that line, it's a statement of fact. If what had happened next hadn't happened, had it come down to a '1v1 me, bro' situation....yeah. Jon wins. Period. Hard to argue with or fight against someone who can scatter your molecules with nothing more than a thought.

Sol is tons of ego but...seems to be a good guy at the heart of things. He has a difference in scale and viewpoint that makes it understandable that he would act the way he does. I mean...he MAKES STARS. His day-to-day existence is radically different from our own. Not surprising that he considers human beings lesser creatures, or that he feels like Runeterrans should be knocked down a few pegs on the evolutionary ladder; he's likely seen things like what is happening in lore play out COUNTLESS times before.

To him it's probably like the way you get when watching a bad horror/slasher film or a bad anime: you can see EVERYTHING they're doing wrong and a TON of things that will happen down the road, and that can color your attitude. He's seen hundreds, if not thousands, of sentient lives play out. Not a big surprise that he's partially jaded and partially amused at the silly antics.

His actual character wasn't better than many of the other watchmen for what you described. Manhattan doesn't just have a lack of ego, he has a lack of any real emotion. Any struggle that he has is made less by the fact that he is a god. He is the definition of boring, no personality and completely unchallenged being that is aware of that. Almost all of the good scenes in the movie are one's where he is absent and for good reason, the rest of the cast are much more interesting.

I'd contend that his struggles just aren't as visible. as the others'. For example on mars he openly wonders if predestination exists: if what he's about to make is his decision, or was it decided all along? I would think that he has emotions, but it seems like he struggles to reconcile them with what he's become. Laurie even mentions once that despite KNOWING about her and Dan, he still sounded angry about it. I would imagine it's a question that sort of interests him: he knows exactly how and why emotions work, yet he still is subject to them in his own way.

Many people seem to put 'powers' in place of 'character', or hold that character's powers over everything else about them. Happens with Superman too. Manhattan may not show much, and I'll concede that his powers can make almost any PHYSICAL challenge trivial, but I'll take him over the 'hit you over the head with a blatant stereotype' characters like Rorschach. At least in the case of a one-shot affair like Watchmen. Ongoing it would be too difficult to find new things for him to do.

Characters like him, i.e. god tier characters capable of altering the fabric of reality tend to generally make other characters seem grossly insignificant, and sometimes provide a stupidly cheap deus ex machima. It's not quite him and his lore being boring per say, it's the useless trope he represents.

Next you're going to say one punch man is stupid because he's too strong

I've seen that be a reason.

The difference being Saitama is the main character with the focus being his OP strength. Dr Manhattan ISNT however the main character of Watchmen. DC has the same problem with Superman, a bunch of characters ranging from weak to strong and then a character miles ahead of them that they have to use some gimmick to bring down to manageable levels.

Because the one and only guy from the watchmen to try to challenge him directly got blown to pieces by Dr. Manhattans mind with out him even having to be their. That is just a lame character that no one could possibly hope to compete with. As soon as he became Dr. Manhattan he was basically a god and its just cheap.
