To make sure both teams can start at the same time. Otherwise, players who connect to the game a few seconds later or take a few seconds longer to buy their starting items can be left out of the rush to defend/invade the jungle.

^ Was a real pain in the ass when you had to start like item 1029 item 2003 x5 item 3341 vs enemy Shaco jungle. (Shaco cause he has one of the scariest level 1 invades if he has time to setup for it) Or even worse when you did 3 red/2 blue Though I guess that's kind of a dead build now with no blue pots, everyone sorta forced to start item 3340 cause no green wards, and item 2033 existing.

But still nice to not be 'late' if you have to buy more than like dorian+1pot in your starter build.

Its to ensure people have time to buy before they begin losing time. It was made when early game actions (Such as invades or level 1 teamfights) were the norm and to be expected. Mostly because if you bought your starting items quick enough and started moving, you could get to certain spots before other people. And if your entire team did it, then you could suddenly 5-man gank bottom tribush before the other team even gets there.

One time before i hit lvl 30 i got my entire team to camp the top brush and we took first blood before the first wave of minions hit. We then proceeded to go three mid the whole game and eventually won after an hour long game.
