i'm not gonna int, but that match does suddenly look like a great time to test my midlane janna.

You shouldn't be allowed to ban a champ a teammate has declared. As we've recently seen from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, the tech companies don't have the spine, wisdom, or leadership to enforce logical guidelines and boundaries.

It's just sad to see Riot has joined the ranks.

banning a champ is the same as saying you absolutely, positively do not want to see that champ in this particular match, your ally declaring it doesn't guarantee that your team gets it.

But it's a solid guarantee that they throw. The facts are on the table. You can do with them whatever you want but again, we're reasonably certain they were going to pick Champ X. You have far less certainty of their intent.

It is what it is. If their declared champ gets banned and they open mid/feed, it's their account, not mine. I can handle a loss. But it's their account, and even if that one report doesn't do them in, it'll be fresh on their record if it happens again.

Yes but we're talking about risk mitigation. The likelihood that they troll when you ban their champ is higher than if you don't is my argument.

Quiet Dude1 votes

I honestly don't care about the risk. It's not like my declared pick hasn't been banned before and I acted like a spoiled brat. They are still responsible for their behavior, whether they are happy about it or not. If they choose to troll, that's their choice and every choice has consequences.

You gain no benefit from the ban. The reason you pursue risk mitigation is because the damage is done with the verdict is rendered.

If I dont want to see their champion in the match, I definitely get a benefit. Whether or not they choose to throw is on them. I have seen notifications from matches where these people have a temper tantrum report back to me with action taking place against their account. At the end of the day, they are still responsible for their behavior.

No one is refuting personal responsibility. To the end that you don't want the champ in the match, then it's a question of CBA. Is the cost of the troll lower than the benefit of removing a potential OP champ.

Largely, that's a personal question. And it also hinges on whether you think the enemy is going to ban them. For example, I'd never ban an allies declared Yi because the enemy almost certainly is either going to ban him.

Quiet Dude1 votes

{quoted} then it’s a question of CBA. Is the cost of the troll lower than the benefit of removing a potential OP champ.

Yes. A troll can eventually be dealt with permanently. An OP champ can’t be removed from the game permanently, unless I ban it every game.

TBH If given the choice to ban an OP champ or deal with a troll, I say why not ban one and contribute to getting the other banned as well? I have my cake and eat it too.

Because on OP champ has less influence on the match. I don't know what your experience has been, but I've seen some feeding OP champs.

Matches come and go. Winning, losing, I’m at a point in my ranked games where I either gain a rank or lose a rank, without much fluctuation.

If banning an OP champ causes a player to troll/lose his temper, and I report him... well eventually those consequences will change him forever. I’ve banned a champ and the player spammed “kys” all game to me.

His account doesn’t have activity anymore. Was it worth the loss? Don’t care. That’s one less troll at my elo.

We must be in different divisions, then. I personally feel trapped in Bronze 5 because of smurfs throwing/trolling and it's coming to a head. I've never felt like my losses were so undeserved before this season and I'm sadly thinking it's time to move on.

Quiet Dude1 votes

I’ve never been in bronze 5 but I imagine it’s not much different from Silver 5. In bronze and silver, individual play I found is much more important than team play.

I got out of silver by focusing on my personal game, chose a carry, and dragged the 4 sorry sacks of shit to the finish line.

Your going to see trolls at every elo. But bronze and silver is unique because trolls don’t get to decide the game. You do... if you want to and play like you shouldn’t belong there.

That's a popular concept, but I don't think it's true. The amount of times I've put everything in to keep the flood at bay only to have some slip up undo 40 minutes of work...it's all too common. I've picked up carry champs, I've tried all the roles, I've been a positive force for good, and I'm taken all offers for swaps - it doesn't change anything.

AFKs influence a lot, and one loss sets back 1.5 wins. So a troll doesn't even need to work that hard.

ok I'll answer this a third time, but to everyone else who says the same damn thing as everyone else, this is your answer.

  1. Consequences don't do anything for your MMR. So this argument seems ridiculous to me. Would you not care that someone murdered your dog because they had a pay a fine? It isn't connected. And I don't know if you don't value your time, but I certainly do. Between what I need to accomplish in a day, the dodges, the remakes, the trolls...punishment doesn't matter to me. If I knew this guy was going to be a total %%%%, I'd have practiced guitar, or tried to learn Spanish, or gone to the gym. I don't advance in any skill because he was punished.

This position is illogical.

  1. And I don't know how else I can say this, if you ban their champ, the likelihood the game goes poorly increases. If someone can explain what they're not understanding about that I'd appreciate it.

As I established in position 1, punishment has no bearing on me so it isn't something that factors in. What I'm attempting to do is prevent tragedy by any means necessary to climb in ranks. Now, I'm doing this as well for bad connections, uninformed players, people who chose to be counter picked, but trolling has it's options as well.

To put this another way, would you do something that increased the chances of your allies have a bad wifi signal?

Would you select a team full of mastery 4 champs? Or a team full of champs with no mastery?

The point here, again, is risk mitigation. None of the options above guarantee you a good game. But it reduces the opportunity for failure. This is the basis of good investment. You aren't investing your money, but you are investing your time.

  1. 9 times out of 10 I encounter people banning allied declarations on the grounds of ideology. I believe Pyke/Zoe/Yas are bullshit champs. There isn't a good reason for it. And this is even more true in the modern system. Because you're likely to have both teams banning an OP champ, the likelihood of a player making it through the ban phase without having said champ banned is slim.

Here's the deal: I don't give a flying fuck about my rank. 1 loss doesn't mean a thing to me. My MMR decreases from that loss, big deal. At least I am not a manchild that throws a temper tantrum when I can't play the champion I wanted to play. I can get that MMR back in no time. Long term my reports just contribute to a less toxic environment.

If anything: Thinking that 1 guy trolling because his champion was banned will completely ruin your progress is completely illogical. It doesn't matter. What is 1 toxic idiot gonna do to you long term? Exactly, as much as that boosted bonobo did to your end of season rank while he was on your team during placements.

  1. And I don't know how else I can say this, if you ban their champ, the likelihood the game goes poorly increases. If someone can explain what they're not understanding about that I'd appreciate it.

This entire second point comes down to 1 thing (well 2 things actually, 1. it's an opinion of yours, and 2.): "I want to get to an as high as possible rank with the least amount of time invested." This isn't how you should see the game. Investing time is what makes you good. What the hell does it mean to me if I got carried straight up to plat 3 when I can't even hold out on my own.

This is still a bloody game. You should have fun playing the game, be it ranked or normals. If you only play to win and gain elo then I'm inclined to say that you're probably more frustrated by everything that doesn't go your way than someone that plays for fun, someone that wants to improve in something he or she has fun in. This is the type of mindset that makes you think: "Oh my god, my jungler is feeding again" instead of asking yourself if you had the chance to save him from that invade. This won't help you to improve.

  1. 9 times out of 10 I encounter people banning allied declarations on the grounds of ideology. I believe Pyke/Zoe/Yas are bullshit champs. There isn't a good reason for it. And this is even more true in the modern system. Because you're likely to have both teams banning an OP champ, the likelihood of a player making it through the ban phase without having said champ banned is slim.

That is not our problem though. Riot has to do something about those champions. Yasuos banrate is so high not because he's overpowered, his banrate is so high because his entire kit is bullshit to deal with. Zoe is banned because she doesn't need to hit shit and still kill you.

I banned Yasuo and you're gonna troll because of that? Well sucks for you, cause I won't get myself tilted just because you wanting that champion made it possible for the enemy to get him in the first place. Believe it or not but I trust myself more than I trust a random guy I just met on the internet. If you're gonna troll the game I don't mind. It's your MMR as well. At least I know that I'll be climbing in the long run simply because I don't start trolling if I can't get the champion I want.

Trying to avoid conflicts is great and all. More people should do this. But if "avoiding conflicts" means licking someones boots then no thank you. Ban the champion I prepicked out of spite if you want, I've got an arsenal of different champions I can play. Even IF I'd be a pure onetrick I'd have the basic human decency to not be a dick to my teammates because my main got banned.

Not reporting him just ends up with this guy doing it over and over and over and over and over again. This is gonna come back to bite you at the higher ranks, when you get the same people multiple times a day. You accidentally banned Yasuo that one time so you got put on Yassuos int-list.

I didn't bring up anyone. You did. And I have proposed a solution - don't ban a teammates champ. For a second, imagine that it's happening to you. Not just in this rare scenario when you're thwarting trolls.

DrCyanide1 votes

You really haven't thought this through, have you? Of course not, no one who ever thinks you shouldn't be able to ban allied hovers thinks this through.

I want you to imagine for a moment that Riot makes a change that puts a champion at a 60% win rate or higher. Completely broken. You know what will happen? Some troll will queue up as Support for the fastest queue time possible, and they'll hover the broken champion. They'll hold you and your whole team hostage in champ select unless you swap them roles. The other team is first pick, so unless you agree to it soon they'll be able to pick this OP champ unopposed.

You'd make the whole champ select process worst, holding entire teams hostage, for what? So you don't have to play your secondary choice every once in a while? BOO HOO!

A teammate banning your champion or the enemy team banning your champion has the exact same effect on you: You pick your secondary choice. That's it, the end. Trolling or Inting over a banned champ is just about as stupid as it gets.

No I had thought of this, and while it's unfortunate, trolls have power either way. I can either hold a team hostage, or I can ban a teammates Declared to be a jerk. In your scenario, the other team would likely be banning a champ with a 60% win rate, but at the end of the day, these are all hypotheticals.

The problem here exists prior to the ban phase with incentives. Riot continues to put all the eggs in the one basket of Ranked. If Ranked was just about LP gains - which is to say that it was only about climbing - and didn't allow for Chest acquisition, quest completion, or mastery gains then you'd have far less people going to ranked for dumb things.

A major portion of the trolling problem we have is because Riot has allowed a centralized system to occur. If trolls had to choose between Ranked and Normals, they'd be spread thin, and removed from the game before they had an opportunity to cause problems. Currently, if I go Ranked and take Tahm Kench, I can dramatically skew game progress for multiple people. So while I agree with you that there are scenarios in which trolls might take advantage of ay give system, the system defeats itself by it's centralization.

Well I'd disagree that you have to benefit everyone. For one thing that's impossible, and rejecting a solution that protects 95% of player is stupid.

But more importantly I've laid out the scenario here. The problem riot only addresses the problem once it's become a problem. That's like asking what rights should we give prisoners. No, do what you can to prevent the need for crime. Until you do that, nothing done after the fact matters.

I've mentioned in a previous post in this thread (I thought to you) how Ranked should be changed from normals. That would reduce substantial amounts of the problems the game currently faces.

I'm not sure how you got that I don't want criminals to face justice, but I do, so let's call that a misunderstanding.

As for the Ranked changes, I'm saying that Ranked is not about the pure climb. If you could only gain/lose LP there (and maybe levels) but not mastery, S-rewards, or quests, you'd cut out a lot of the inventive for people to play Ranked for non-climbing things. If more people are playing normals, you'd have two things that changed:

  1. People who were not seriously playing would more consistently choose Normals. Which, frankly is how it should be anyway, but thats an opinion .

  2. If you couldn't get any more the fun shit in Ranked, it would more accurately reflect the player base that is showing up to take things seriously. You could also lock in things like "In Ranked, you can only play a Champion you've used in 20+ matches that didn't remake."

Currently, ranked isn't a real evaluation of skill because they throw all this other shit into it. Which ultimately attracts trouble-makers as well as the genuinely clueless who, regardless of intent, are causing problems.

Okay, I can understand this and I'm totally onboard. I 100% agree that people who are playing casually should be playing normals, not ranked. Anything that makes it so that people are less likely to first-time champions in ranked is an improvement in my book. Maybe I'll actually try ranked if Riot does something like this to reduce the amount of casuals showing up for ranked rewards.

This is the last I'll say about this because it's become obvious you're taking any position just to win. The question before us is: How are people dealt with then they ruin a communal platform for the whole. Your unwillingness to grasp the concept, again, isn't my problem.

Revenue prevents these companies from doing the right thing. It's because they lack data on how much they'll lose by banning someone, or how much social capital is gained from removing them, and how that translates to money.

But you don't pick champions on Facebook in the same way that you can't SnapStory on YouTube or add filters to your Twitter feed. Applying Thing A to Thing B for the purposes of proving they aren't similar is absurd. The differences between you and your siblings are innumerate. The only possible retaliation is to ban their pick intent without making it obvious that you were retaliating against them and then just play as normal. Then if they flame or troll, you can mute and report them. That's if you choose not to be the better person though. I would much prefer to be the latter, but that just gets me walked all over like a welcome mat.

People here don't want a good solution, they just want to win. I'm stubborn enough to keep debating.

I wish you better luck than I had. I got tired of debating between why it's wrong vs why it's allowed. People just don't seem to understand that just because something is allowed, doesn't mean it's not wrong.

People who ban a hovered champion have a spezial place in hell

Depending on the reason they banned your champ, it may be considered griefing and by extension is punishable.

If you dont want your champion banned, don't declare it. People can ban whom they please.

Khâmul1 votes

the whole point of declaring is not to get your champ banned. if someone ban a champ another one wants to play, he shouldn't complain about the guy trying to unleash the power of a 5 item 1056

I don't complain, I just report.

The funniest with this is when the dude did not prepick his champion.
